Google launches entreprise-based Social Network «Google Currents»
Google Currents is, uh, currently launching as a beta service that G Suite admins can request access to. The enterprise focus means it's for paying G Suite customers only. Google's blog post says Currents "enables people to have meaningful discussions and interactions across your organization, helping keep everyone in the know and giving leaders the opportunity to connect with their employees." Currents looks exactly like Google+, but with a new logo and maybe a slightly whiter color scheme.
Currents marks the end of the tragic story of Google+. One day, Google imagined a future where everything was social and began viewing Facebook as an existential threat. Google+ was cooked up as the answer in 2011, and then-CEO Larry Page tied every Google employee's yearly bonus to the company's success in social, basically mandating Google+ integration for every made product.
After eight years of mostly negative press, it's no wonder Google decided to change the name of Google+. This is actually the second Google app named "Google Currents." The first Google Currents was introduced in 2011 as a news magazine app, along the lines of Apple News. The first Currents was killed off in favor of Google Play Newsstand in 2014, which itself was killed off and merged with Google News in 2018. Let's see how long this version of "Google Currents" will last.

Other 1c - I've just tried keeping my feed focused on the tag #gplusrefugee, which is what I've used and brings me to familiar people I've only met in recent months. I see similar hashtags (i.e., googleplusrefugees) and it turns out a whole different set of people and none of my own posts). So... the hashtag really does rule "here" and almost makes up for some losses - and t quiets down the feed from larger tags (e.g., music) or all aspects if you have many. I'm usually trying to focus when I'm at the computer and come up for air and play. I suffer from TMI. So for me, between aspects (for posting) and following tags, like this, which gets me like extended circles, personal long-time friends, recent ones, and others who were immersed n the land of G.... I'm done now. Worked out, planning to go off-grid into the jungle... Photos to follow... 😀)
So the moral is: #gplusrefugee really seems to reflect the end of G+ group I watched with, about which I have a few notifications of, and even screenshots.
Now if you set up a community... well then, actually, I think the tag is it!
Whoops, #gplusrefugee here. Google deleted all of my earlier reportages by killing g+ … Reposting here now.
One per day …
After the deluge
Tsunami 2004, Sri Lanka
Following a magnitude 9.0 earthquake off the coast of Sumatra, a tidal wave kills roughly 200,000 people.

Hmm. I just realized that the 70 or so email notifications, that came in from G+ during the final moments, each contain a thread of multiple emails containing the text of the comments.
I'll have to find the best way to preserve those.
Those contain the final words from a bunch of my contacts, as things were shutting down. They were NOT captured for the Internet Archive.
Whatever you have in your inbox is the only remaining copies.
Hello and a big welcome
to everyone new to diaspora*
With Google+ closing today, you might have just signed up to diaspora* looking for a new home. We're so pleased that you've decided to give diaspora* a try. It's fantastic that you've joined us! We have a big existing community of former G+ users, and you could try tags such as #gplusrefugee and #googleplus to connect with people you know from G+.
We hope that you quickly find your way here, and enjoy getting connected with people and content.
Here's a few tips for getting started:
- There are some step-by-step tutorials on our project website covering the basics of how diaspora* works, and how to get connected with people. There's a link to these in the side-bar, should you ever want to read them in future, and there's also an in-app Help section you can access through your user menu (at the right-hand end of the header bar).
- You can search for people by name or by diaspora* ID (which looks like an email address), if you know it, from the search field in the header bar. You can invite people to join you in diaspora* by sending them a link to our project website, from where they can choose their own pod to register with. Your friends don't need to be on the same pod as you in order to connect and communicate with you.
- One good way to start getting connected with people is to start following some #tags of subjects that interest you (maybe #music, #photography, #linux, or #activism ... whatever interests you) so that you will see content on those topics in your stream. You can then start following people whose posts you find interesting, by placing them into one of your aspects.
- If you have any questions, post something with the #question or #help tag, and people will try to help you. Make sure to make your post public so anyone who can help is able to see it!
We're trying to improve diaspora* all the time, fixing bugs, honing performance and adding new features. But how fast we can do this is limited by the time developers have. To improve diaspora* faster, we need more developers! If you've just signed up and can code, or know someone who can and who might be interested in joining our team, get in touch!

To those whose comments to me, in a post of mine, or anyhow else:
I today was bothered by a bug that automatically created a #newhere - post including all the tags I follow, and didn't mark the recognised notifications as read, as supposed. This went on for the entire day, until a few minutes ago, up to an hour at most. I shortly switched over to my Pluspora-account (you find it in my biography, it's my backup account in case I should permanently leave this account here), to share some of the news I read in the meantime. Now, I'm back here again, but as it seems, some of my comments have disappeared, putting me back to a status quo ante. I don't know in which form it also affected my posts, but I am sorry to anyone who will inadvertently be ignored by me regarding the comments or whatever. It's not my intention, nor my fault, but since it would endure too much time which I am not ready to reinvest just because of technical difficulties, but I hope that henceforth, it will all work properly as before.
Thanks for your understanding.
PS: If you are looking for the posts you may have missed, check out my Telegram channels or my Pluspora backup account. I will not share them here again, since I am too lazy, tired, and annoyed by things I don't understand due to a lack of understanding of IT-affiliated concerns. 😁

Internet Archive to store Google+ to assure its availability after April 2nd, 2019
It's not completely surprising that efforts would be underway to preserve Google+, but it's an unusual situation. You don't see archivists preserving a major social network (albeit one that struggled to compete) very often. The question is whether or not it will be a comprehensive record -- there isn't much time left to safeguard every last ounce of public content.

I managed to get our friend @cσυηт hσOρυƖα un blocked from #Pluspora. Thanks again @Di Cleverly for being reasonable about this.

^(This thread might be gone soon, it was posted from a new Theaitetos account he made on Pluspora. If someone could point me to a good archiving web site we could use to preserve threads like this, I would appreciate it.)

ok so the recommendation lets get done with that. I am an old googleplus user joined while still was not open to public.
#GPlusrefugee #newhere When its about tag newhere I am not really new on the diaspora network as I have accounts from the 2011 and 2012 on some other diaspora nodes. I think first was joindiaspora.com and diasp.org. I am also on friendica currently on the fediverse.me so you can add me as firstname.lastname@example.org or here email@example.com or just search marko.shiva.pavlovic @ other diaspora nodes.
I do not really feel as wanting to follow many people as I hate noise so I will be pretty much selective here you are still open to follow me and I will add my on node address once I set it up.
I am also part of the #KDE project especially #plasmamobile if you want to chat with me can add me on MarkoPavlovic@kdetalk.net
I am part of few other communities too I have many interests some of them you can find in tags on my public profile.
I used to manage and work as owner of #debian #community on the #googleplus which I currently moving to mewe for users who do want to have linux related forum they can join me on fediverse and we can have set up linux and debian related forum for us here.
Anyway I do not like talking a lot about me and prefer talking about ideas.
I was thinking on how to sign this and was thinkin with “have a nice life”. To me personally have a nice life is a word I say in hatred so I will leave this post unsigned. 😀
I personally do not use other networks beside linkedin as I do not love noise and noise is what social networks usually make with all unrelated posts.
The cool thing with this all "cuckpod" shit is that i can easyly find people to "ignore".
thanks to firstname.lastname@example.org for the image ! 😀
