Ruler of Grand Duchy for 36 years took part in D-day landings with British army

Grand Duke Jean of Luxembourg, who took part in the D-day landings with the British army before spending nearly 36 years as his country’s head of state, has died aged 98.

He had abdicated in 2000 to make way for his son, Henri, who said his father passed away surrounded by family.

Jean Benoît Guillaume Robert Antoine Louis Marie Adolphe Marc d’Aviano was born on 5 January 1921, the eldest child of Charlotte and Prince Felix. #Luxembourg #Secondworldwar #Britisharmy #UKnews #Europe #Worldnews #Military

Manfred Weber promises/threatens to obstruct construction of Nord Strem 2 if elected EU Commission's president

"I am against this project. It's not in the interest of the European Union," he said. "As the head of the European Commission, I will use all available laws to block Nord Stream 2," the German centre-right European People's Party candidate told the paper.
True. I too am not interested in continuing to depend on Russian gas. We have to become independent from them so that we won't be that easy a target to Russian blackmailing. You know it is the worst kind of blackmailing you were ever going to experience.
Opinion polls ahead of the May 23-26 European elections show the EPP would remain the biggest party in the European Parliament, giving Weber a solid chance of becoming Commission president, though he may face resistance from governments who do not want to be bound to choose from among party leaders.

Trump to visit France and England amid D-Day commemorations

Previous to his visit, I would like to demand every member of his administration to be briefed on what has happened during D-Day, so that we can avoid the fauxpas that we were sadly to experience the year before. We don't need any further exhibition of his administration's incapability to recall historic events of this expense. Thanks a lot!

Drumpf and First Lady Melania Drumpf accepted the invitation of Her Royal Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to visit the United Kingdom from June 3 to 5, 2019,” a statement said. “This state visit will reaffirm the steadfast and special relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom.

Libertarian Claire Fox is one of five new candidates announced for European elections

Nigel Farage’s Brexit party has unveiled a former revolutionary communist who once supported Irish republicanism and opposed the Good Friday peace deal as among five new candidates announced for the European elections.

Claire Fox, who now styles herself a libertarian and is a panellist on BBC Radio 4’s Moral Maze programme, told the launch event she most likely only agreed with Farage on one issue – Brexit. #Brexitparty #2019Europeanparliamentaryelections #Europeanelections #Brexit #NigelFarage #EuropeanUnion #Europe #UKnews #Politics

The amount of money spent, fighting over that land, is unjustifiable. You could have built Atlantis for half the price.
This is not a question of money, it is a question of religion. Abramistic religions, designed to promote the idea of a official unified world government.
This is a German project (a project of the German aristocracy), the Jews are only involuntary executors here, those to whom the German aristocracy want to transfer all the responsibility for their attempt to form a new world government. This project is over 100 years old:

Macedonia going to vote for a new government shortly before EU-election

Pendarovski is the candidate of the ruling Social Democratic Party of Prime Minister Zoran Zaev who championed and implemented the country’s name change, and is deem the pro-Western candidate in the presidential race.
Siljanovska-Davkova, on the other hand, is from the conservative and nationalist VMRO-DPMNE party, which was adamantly opposed to the name dispute deal with Greece. VMRO-DPMNE’s former leader and former Prime Minister of the country for nearly a decade, Nikola Gruevski, is presently in exile to escape serving a sentence for abuses while in office.
The shorthand information for those who didn't know who is going to run for president in this lone country north of Greece, home to Alexander the Great.
With 97% of the votes counted, Pendarovski received 42.85% of the votes (323,846 votes), Siljanovska-Davkova got 42.24% (319,240), and Blerim Reka, candidate of North Macedonia’s second largest ethnic Albanian party, won

Is EKRE going to become a threat for Estonia's progressivism and pro-European stance?

EKRE’s popularity gained a significant boost from the formal recognition of same-sex unions in 2014 (which made Estonia the first central or eastern European country to adopt such legislation) and the outbreak of the migration crisis in Europe in 2015. “If you’re black, go back” and “I want Estonia to be a white country” were just some of the comments Martin Helme made in 2013.
The paroles couldn't be stupider, this is blatantly racist as f*ck... How would something like this ever enter a modern European parliament? This is comparably disappointing for the European hopeful in Eastern Europe, besieged by the threat from the East.
Today there are just 206 registered refugees of which only 107 are still in Estonia. All others left.
This is scaremongering at its finest. Even regarding the small population in this very small country, 206 immigrants are a decreasing amount you are not likely to eve... show more

Anti-establishment political novice defeats President Petro Poroshenko with 73 percent of ballots, exit polls show. #Ukraine #Europe #PetroPoroshenko #Elections

In the shadow of Brexit, Britain has become one front in a pan-continental battle for the soul of the European project

Elections to the European parliament can be awkward for admirers of the EU. A ballot in every member state is the most directly democratic feature of the union’s institutional architecture and such a poll should, in theory, bind millions of people in a sense of collective political enterprise.

In practice, it rarely feels that way. Awareness of the parliament’s functions is thin. Turnout is low. Parties tend to reserve their best candidates for domestic races. An election of apparently minor consequence invites protest voting, which yield MEPs who have no interest in doing the job properly. #Europeanelections #Brexit #UKnews #EuropeanUnion #Foreignpolicy #Politics #Hungary #Europe #ViktorOrbán #Thefarright

A comedian with no political experience won a landslide victory in Ukraine’s presidential election on Sunday, exit polls showed, dealing a stunning rebuke to the country’s political establishment.

MPs vote to put pressure on Berlin as European parliamentary elections loom

Greece is poised to send Germany a formal diplomatic note detailing its demand for billions of euros in wartime reparations after MPs voted overwhelmingly for the emotive issue to be raised officially.
