"Nobody has embraced this message more than Joe Biden, who has gone beyond claiming he can be the MAGA whisperer in the election to believing his white maleness will somehow win over Republicans in Washington, D.C., too. He claimed this week that once Trump is gone, Republicans will have an 'epiphany' and get back to work. He’s Tyrion thinking that shared whiteness will get Cersei to ring that bell and surrender instead of put up a fight. Not today. Not in 2020, either."

AOC (D - NYC) confronts BigPharma's ridiculous drug pricing

"Truvada still has patent protection in the United States and in the rest of the world it is generic," O'Day explained, adding, "It will be generically available in the United States as of September 2020."

"I think it's important here that we notice that we the public, we the people, developed this drug. We paid for this drug, we lead and developed all the patents to create Prep and then that patent has been privatized despite the fact that the patent is owned by the public, who refused to enforce it," Ocasio-Cortez said.
this is for sure a plot twist, if you think about this and are able to rightfully assume that she was right about who really developed the drug itself; when it's not Gilead, and Gilead only took it over and was granted patent protection upon it, I would say that this is unjustifiable, unless you don't care much about the people who need this drug to survive.

Congress Democrats to put more pressure on Senate majority leader McConnell

The move is intended to pressure Senate Republicans into taking up House bills and underscores a desire by Democratic leadership to spotlight all the legislation that has languished on the other side of the Capitol.

Separate votes would also help draw attention to little-noticed pieces of the initial bill, such as automatic voter registration or a crackdown on super PACs, which are priorities for the liberal grassroots and something some lawmakers say Democratic leaders have not done enough to promote.

In reality, the approach has little chance of changing McConnell’s mind. The Kentucky Republican has already rejected a wide range of ideas in H.R. 1 — like overhauling the Federal Election Commission and tightening restrictions for political ads. A spokesman for McConnell declined to comment on whether any of the Democrats’ bills could come to the floor, but there’s little reason to think he’ll reverse course.

Too bad, as their coverage of (US domestic) issues is decent enough in other respects.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D - NYC) exposes penetrating lobbyism in the US

“This event wasn’t about fixing the health care system,” Wendell Potter, president of Business Initiative for Health Policy, told the Intercept. “It was about protecting the health care industry, no matter the cost to patients, families, workers or employers.”

Ocasio-Cortez said this was just business as usual for much of Washington as lobbyists “schmooze policymakers in secret” into accepting their industry-friendly talking points to stay on message:

CA Dem.s caught in dilemma over who to support - Pete Buttigieg (IN) or Kamala Harris (CA)

Buttigieg, the mayor of South Bend, Ind., isn’t viewed as a direct threat to Harris. But his rapid rise, appeal to millennial voters and newfound popularity among Hollywood and Silicon Valley donors stands to hinder her ability to lock down her backyard. And it could enable the 37-year-old mayor to net a solid cache of delegates from Harris’ home state — perhaps even more than he can capture in early voting states like Nevada or Iowa.

“We have a lot of people who are very candidate curious,’’ Garcetti notes. “Kamala has a ton of love up and down the state, but people might say, ‘That doesn’t mean I’m not going to shop around … Maybe I’ll keep her as my senator and go with somebody else as president.’”
What they say is that they would backstab their homestate Sen. in support of the man who is likely to become the first homoesexual POTUS, a man they (perhap... show more

New Puerto Rico aid proposal passes bipartisan agreement

Drumpf was in Florida on Wednesday night promising to swiftly deliver disaster aid in the aftermath of Hurricane Michael last October. But he continues to dig in against new funding for Puerto Rico, incorrectly claiming at an impromptu news conference on Thursday that the territory had already secured $91 billion in aid for a massive hurricane with a death toll of 3,000 people.
Beside lying Donnie, Republicans are colder than Prince Valiant, an iceberg and Hitman combined. To break their stonecold heart, it took them a while. I mean, when you face the facts clearly, you could see that Puerto Rico, which is highly indebted in US-American credit institutes, could hardly cope with the damages the natural catastrophes have created. But of course, the US cannot bear any further debts themselves. Let's not get into the fraud that is committed in the Pentagon on a daily base, or the generally high spending for the military, while the school system is scarcely financed. Snappish comment on Pelosi's behalf raise anger of Republicans

Conway, who was Drumpf’s third and final campaign manager in 2016 and is now a top White House adviser, blasted “the inability of [Pelosi’s] party and her party’s failed nominee [Hillary Clinton] to accept the election results of 2016.”
She only made a semi-funny comment, ok? She didn't question the election's outcome, nor did she commence an investigation on the election's outcome. You can cool down at last, your administration didn't ever produce any seriousness since it took office in 2016. Therefore, you shouldn't bet an eye, Kellyanne "Alternative Facts" Conway.
Rudy Giuliani, the former New York City mayor who is part of Drumpf's legal team, said that Democrats, including Pelosi, are “really getting to the point of being malicious. They're trying to suggest he's some kind of monster. They should stop.”

Presidential candidate Beto O'Rourke (D - TX) now favours impeachment

“We’re finally learning the truth about this president. And yes, there has to be consequences. Yes, there has to be accountability. Yes, I think there’s enough evidence now for the House of Representatives to move forward with impeachment,” he said in an interview with The Dallas Morning News. “This is our country, and this is the one chance that we get to ensure that it remains a democracy and that no man, regardless of his position, is above the law.”

“Republicans say people don’t care about the Mueller investigation, that it’s a closed deal. When they go to their districts, or people they represent, that’s not what they’re hearing. What about you?” asked The News’ Gromer Jeffers Jr., during a campaign stop in Fort Worth on Friday. “How do you feel about the Mueller investigation and what should happen next?”

Emotionalism has reached the left wing

After the speeches, Biden is in his element as Uncle Joe, expertly shooting selfie after selfie with voters’ smartphones, high-fiving small children and giving words of encouragement to well-wishers thrilled just to be standing next to a former vice president.

Biden also uses healthcare as a means to talk about “my buddy,” President Obama, whose popularity among Democrats has buoyed the former vice president. While he has always been proud to have served as Obama’s vice president, Biden says the passage of the Affordable Care Act was one of the administration’s high points.

“I have an ambitious plan to rebuild this country — from cleaner renewable energy, cleaner safer transportation, a whole range of things — that I’m going to be laying out,” Biden said. “But you’re going to be laying out on the floor if I keep going, if I laid it all out.”

GOP sees chance in impeachment on Democratic behalf

“The procedural and legal perks of impeachment do not apply, and the chairman can’t have it both ways. He can’t try to pacify his liberal base by pretending to do impeachment without actually taking the plunge,” Collins wrote in prepared remarks for Thursday’s hearing. “The reality of our chamber and this distinguished committee is that when it comes to impeachment, you’re either in, Mr. Chairman, or you’re out, and, right now, you’re out.”

Yet the Democrats' tough talk has done little to prompt new cooperation from the administration. Drumpf has vowed to fight “all the subpoenas.” And Barr’s refusal to testify last week — combined with the recent airing of Mueller’s evident grievances with Barr's assessment of the investigators' findings — have left Democrats inching ever closer to impeachment proceedings.

Joe Biden (D - DE) is running forward in the polls

And a Morning Consult survey released Tuesday found Biden with 36 percent support, followed by Sanders at 22 percent. That’s a 6-point bounce for Biden from the same survey released earlier this month, while Sanders has fallen by 2 points. No other candidate reaches double-digit support in the Morning Consult poll, either.

A Suffolk University survey released Tuesday found the former Delaware senator in the lead in New Hampshire with 20 percent support, followed by Sanders and South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg at 12 percent. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) is in fourth place at 8 percent.

Biden’s strength in the polls is driven by his broad support from African Americans. Biden has 43 percent support from black voters, according to Morning Consult. Sanders is at 20 percent here, followed by Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) at 10 percent.

Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg (D - IN), for some reason, tells us his monthly mortgage payment

“Everybody’s talking about the middle of the country like it’s some mysterious place and I think it might make sense to have somebody in the mix who actually lives here,” Buttigieg told CNBC Make It in a previous interview. “I actually live in a middle-class lifestyle, in a middle-class neighborhood, in the American Midwest.”
So, he just told us that he pays 450 dollars per month as a mortgage to emphasise how middle-cass he is? Well, his standing in our society should only be measured by his actions once he has become president, assuming that he will make it.
Buttigieg’s salary as Mayor of South Bend was $112,314.40 in 2018. His husband Chasten previously worked as a teacher at South Bend Montessori but has since taken a leave of absence so the pair can campaign together.

Right-winged pundits attempt to spread false rumours about Pete Buttigieg (D - IN) in order to weaken his campaign

The source who spoke to The Daily Beast said Burkman and Wohl made clear that their goal was to kneecap Buttigieg’s momentum in the 2020 presidential race. The man asked to remain anonymous out of a concern that the resulting publicity might imperil his employment, and because he said Wohl and Burkman have a reputation for vindictiveness.

After publication, Kelly told The Advocate that Wohl and Burkman flew him to Washington, D.C. on Sunday evening to participate in the scheme. But Kelly said he didn’t realize what they had planned, and that he didn’t consent to their publication of the Buttigieg allegations under his name.

When the source expressed reluctance, they assured him the scheme would make him wealthy, famous, and a star in Republican politics. Wohl cited the national recognition given to Christine Blasey Ford after she accused Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault durin

Presidential hopeful Pete Buttigieg (D - IN) compares Bernie Sanders supporters to Trumpists

"I think the sense of anger and disaffection that comes from seeing that the numbers are fine, like unemployment's low, like all that, like you said GDP is growing and yet a lot of neighborhoods and families are living like this recovery never even happened. They're stuck," Buttigieg told high school Democrats in Nashua, N.H., on Friday. "It just kind of turns you against the system in general and then you're more likely to want to vote to blow up the system, which could lead you to somebody like Bernie and it could lead you to somebody like Drumpf. That's how we got where we are."
True. Both are populists in their own way, and serve their respective wing in a the populist manner of fighting against the establishment, although Bernie at least never belonged to the establishment he wanted to fight, and only made a lot of money privately via writing a popular book. But that only worked out because he became well-known after running for president twice. I... show more

TX, TN, AZ turn towards further voting restrictions after surge in Democratic voters

In Texas, state lawmakers are considering adding criminal penalties for people who improperly fill out voter registration forms. Arizona Republicans are proposing new voting rules that could make it more complicated to cast an early ballot. In Tennessee, GOP lawmakers are considering a bill that would fine groups involved in voter registration drives that submit incomplete forms.
This is many Republicans' exact comprehension of how Democracy works: When the opposite side experiences a surge in votes, restrict their voters' rights to vote, so that they will improbably be capable of filling out a ballot correctly. Then, you are going to see your party winning in the next election. It might be autocratic and highly unconstitutional, but who cares when you're ruling?
Voting groups in the state say they are concerned this effort could result in jail time for people who don't properly fill out their voter registration forms. Currently, providing false

18th Democratic presidential candidate announced run - this time: Seth Moulton (D - MA)

Moulton first came to prominence in 2014 when he unseated long-term incumbent Rep. John Tierney in a Democratic primary and went on to represent the state's 6th Congressional District, a swath of communities north of Boston including Salem, home of the infamous colonial-era witch trials.

"Sixteen years ago today, leaders in Washington sent me and my friends to fight in a war based on lies. It's still going on today," Moulton said in a recent tweet. "It's time for the generation that fought in Iraq to take over for the generation that sent us there."
And when Drumpf claimed to be the target of the "single greatest witch hunt of a politician in American history," Moulton responded that "as the Representative of Salem, MA, I can confirm that this is false."

The Boston crowd is mostly techies and earnest college kids. I catch a few whiffs of weed but nothing unreasonable given the venue. An iRobot engineer is holding up a “Humanity First” sign. He imagined “an army of smart, enterprising graduates building businesses in Detroit, New Orleans, Providence, Baltimore, Cleveland, St. Louis, and other cities that could use a boost.” In 2011, he donated $120,000 of his own money to start Venture For America (VFA), an accelerator meant to build new startups and new jobs in emerging cities outside of coastal startup hubs.

Latest poll put Pete Buttigieg (D - IN) in top three among Democratic presidential candidates

The online survey from Change Research, a left-leaning polling outlet, finds former Vice President Joe Biden at 21 percent support, followed by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) at 20 percent and Buttigieg at 17 percent.
That’s a 15-point gain for Buttigieg in the past month, according to the poll, while Biden has fallen by 15 points and Sanders shed 4 points in the same survey.

In the past few weeks, Buttigieg has become a media sensation and a serious contender, raising $7 million in the first quarter and landing several coveted donors who previously raised millions of dollars for the Obama-Biden ticket.
