Every 6 months, my church holds a "general conference". All the highest folks preach. The general portion lasts 2 days, and there are several sessions that last two hours each - 3 sessions on Saturday, 2 on Sunday. It is broadcast live on TV locally, there is a 20,000 seat conference center that is always filled, along with the historic #Tabernacle with it's 5,000 seats (?). It is also available online and over satellite. They have live translators that work to produce it into 31 languages live, and then record it in 86 additional languages. There are other portions for leadership that are not broadcast generally.

on #Cloud #Computing is #Bad

I have never been a proponent of cloud computing [defined as the “cloud” being Not On Your Own Platform (#NOYOP)].

The reasons were:
  • Criminal hacking,
    • (even your own) state-sponsored criminal hacking,
  • #Idiot-moves — like the one below; which can happen if You do not control Your data.
I just wanted a place-marker, to add some of the (many, many) other occurrences of this kind of stuff that has happened – and that will happen again.

We're back, and now running with postgres, with major thanks to this blog post by @Brad Koehn ☑️.

Unfortunately, it looks like the migration script didn't encode emoji correctly, so they're now appearing as question marks (?). However, the database does support storing emoji, so if you had any in your profile you can edit it to put them back. Otherwise, everything appears to be functioning well!

There will be some downtime today as we attempt to migrate the database from MariaDB to Postgresql to improve performance. Thanks for your patience.
