One sad day happened while he was in my back yard. A bunch of other neighborhood kids came over, who were normally reasonable #kids, but something triggered them about Greg's abnormality. An escalation of picking on and mocking him ensued. I don't remember much from the time my mom came out angrily scolding all the #children, who vanished in a flash, and when she broke the ping-pong paddle across my ass from #swatting me. Honestly, I don't even remember any pain, just feeling remorse that I had done something the opposite of good.
Apparently, I had joined in with the other kids making fun of Greg, but I don't have a memory to confirm or deny it. My mom, the overtly and staunch Irish Catholic Christian, is now entering the dementia years, so no way to go back now.
Last night I thought about the #righteous #indignation that motivated her to beat me. The thought occurred to me that a parent who needs to beat their child into submission might be less wise than their child on the topic at hand which required the beating.
My household never did any #hitting in #anger, although I did let my daughters use me as a punching bag to practice their self-defense. When their actions came to odds with my expectations, I could typically reason with them, and most often they did it my way unless it turned out that I was wrong.
So the question is, are all beatings because the parent is dumber than the child?
When we took these pictures 13 years ago, I had no idea that we would live here one day and that I would walk in this forest almost every day. I spent my childhood here, but I didn't expect to come back after 30 years....I spent the first thirteen years of my life in this green house. And now I see it every day from my window. Trees are bigger now 😀
