Fmr. Army Intelligence Analyst and Assange supporter Chelsea Manning again incarcerated after refusing to comply with court

In addition to being held in custody for the duration of the grand jury's investigation or until Manning testifies, the judge ordered her to be fined $500 every day that she is in custody after 30 days and $1,000 every day in custody after 60 days, according to a statement by Manning's lawyers.
This is getting out of hand, this is blackmailing into complying with court: You either obey us, or we are going to bleed you out financially. This cannot be lawful, in my opinion.
Assange remains in England and has vowed to fight extradition to the United States. Swedish prosecutors have reopened an inquiry into rape allegations against him, and are seeking to extradite Assange to Sweden.
One way or the other, they try to get their hands on him, they even warm up those allegations, as if they found any more evidence on it.

Three decades ago, Olof Palme was assassinated on Stockholm’s busiest street. The killer has never been found. Could the discovery of new evidence finally close the case? By Imogen West-Knights

On the last night of February 1986, the Swedish prime minister Olof Palme and his wife, Lisbet, were strolling home through downtown Stockholm. They had taken an impromptu trip to the cinema and decided, as they often did, not to bring bodyguards. Palme made a point of living as much as possible like an ordinary person; he did not want the fact that he was running the country to come between him and his countrymen. “You saw him in the streets all the time,” says the Swedish ethnologist Jonas Engman. “You could speak to him. There was an intimacy to it.”

At 11.21pm, as the couple walked down Sveavägen, one of Stockholm’s busiest streets, a tall man in a dark coat walked up behind them. The man put one hand on Palme’s shoulder, and with his other hand fired a single round from a gun into the prime minister’s back. He grazed Lisbe... show more

The 7 years of lies about Assange won’t stop now

Still the media and political class is turning a blind eye. Where is the outrage at the lies we have been served up for these past seven years? Where is the contrition at having been gulled for so long? Where is the fury at the most basic press freedom – the right to publish – being trashed to silence Assange? Where is the willingness finally to speak up in Assange’s defence?

It’s not there. There will be no indignation at the BBC, or the Guardian, or CNN. Just curious, impassive – even gently mocking – reporting of Assange’s fate.

On the book Assange clutched onto when being arrested

Looking frail after seven years in his cramped embassy quarters, Assange emerged and pointedly held out a copy of ‘Gore Vidal: History of The National Security State (Includes Vidal on America)’.

The book immediately drew attention given Assange’s long-running battles with those who wield power and seek to protect powerful interests, and Vidal’s musings on the same topics. The U.S. Justice Department accuses Assange of conspiring with Chelsea Manning to break into a classified government computer at the Pentagon; his defenders, including whistleblower Edward Snowden, called Assange’s arrest a grave blow to press freedom.

After Assange’s copy of the book was spotted, the Real News Network posted a series of Jay’s interviews with Vidal from 2007. They cover power, public information, politics and more, and include Vidal’s assertion that President Harry Truman decided, after the Second World War, to make a ready-made enemy out of J

Stockholm Anarchist Bookfair 2019 !

When: 2019-06-01 10:00
Where: Midsommargården, Stockholm, Swedish territory.
The institutional left continues to fail us at all levels, rewarding our votes with austerity, reactionary border politics, patriarchal structures, and a dying planet. Now more than ever, we need to develop methods in order to survive and to build a world that the people who come after us can live in.

The Stockholm Anarchist Bookfair will host discussions and workshops about how we as groups and individuals can fight oppression, and create and maintain horizontal structures and autonomous spaces. There will also be information tables from various publishers, organizations, and radical initiatives. We’re looking to build the skills that we need to fight for a better world.

The Stockholm Bookfair is an inclusive sp

Four further pieces on Julian Assange's arrest and extradition, and what it means for journalism

1. Task & Purpose:

London police were invited into the embassy at Ecuador's request — Assange finally pissed them off enough — and the cops subsequently hauled out Old Man WikiLeaks and threw him into a waiting police van.
Pissing him off means that he didn't care to pay his own fees, not cleaning on his own, and not taking care of his cat but telling the employees inside the embassy to do that. He behaved as if he was on his vacations in a hotel, while he was a persecuted criminal hiding inside the embassy.
After his arrest, the U.S. Department of Justice unsealed charges against him, which amount to "conspiracy to commit computer intrusion for agreeing to break a password to a classified U.S. government computer" — stemming from his 2010 conversations with then-Army Pfc. Bradley Manning.

Does Julian Assange seriously face death penalty amid extradition to UK?

(Normally, I couldn't care less for such ridiculous claims, especially when they are uttered by reporters of Russia Today, a Kremlin-controlled proxy news station for people who only see an opponent state oppressed by the US-led Western elite. But since I have seen some talking heads here on the Diaspora who have got enough influence to feed their fellowship with such some information, I guess that it's worth to prove them wrong. Feel free to read the article)
The claim that was made:
In her next Telegram post, Simonyan asserted: “Kindly Ecuador, which today surrendered Assange to the police, demanded that the British not extradite him to the country where he faces death penalty – i.e. the States. A few years ago Assange told me the UK will extradite him to Sweden and [from]Sweden to the U.S. Precisely where he is under the threat of the death penalty.”

“The hand of ‘democracy’ squeezes the throat of freedom”, or Russian Officials React to Julian Assange's Arrest

How Kremlin defends "the hero" ;)

Russian officials have spoken out on Britain’s arrest of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange on Thursday, expressing hopes that the whistleblower’s rights will be respected.

Assange has been accused of collaborating with the Russian government, most notably to release emails that Russian hackers stole during the 2016 U.S. presidential election via the Wikileaks whistleblowing platform. Assange ran the platform from within the Ecuadorian Embassy in London for seven years to avoid Swedish rape charges.

Julian Assange arrested at Ecuadorian embassy in London

Thu 11 Apr 2019 11.12

Julian Assange has been arrested at the Ecuadorian embassy in London, where the WikiLeaks founder was granted refuge in 2012 while on bail in the UK over sexual assault allegations against him in Sweden.

Assange, 47, who has spent almost seven years at the embassy after seeking refuge there to avoid extradition to Sweden, was detained after the Ecuadorian government withdrew his asylum, Scotland Yard said. He was held on a warrant issued by Westminster magistrates court on 29 June 2012 when he failed to surrender to the court.

Scotland Yard said: “He has been taken into custody at a central London police station where he will remain, before being presented before Westminster magistrates court as soon as is possible.

Controversy has arisen around the Indian Journal of Medical Ethics article because the author had submitted under a false name to escape professional persecution."
