Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu plans to name Golan Heights settlement after Donald Trump
The naked appeal to Drumpf’s vanity — proposing to add his name to the map of the Middle East even as it disappears from apartment buildings in New York — came as Israeli officials expressed alarm that the American president had not yet done enough to sabotage the Iran nuclear deal.
“We have to get others to walk away because the deal is still alive,” Israel’s American-born ambassador to Washington, Ron Dermer, said last month at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee conference. The prospect of Drumpf’s successor rejoining the deal, he added, “is something that has to be seen as totally unacceptable.”
Sanders, who would be the first Jewish president of the United States, was asked by a young Jewish activist on Monday during a CNN town hall if his prior criticism of Netanyahu would damage relations with Israel should he be elected.

The kingdom of Brunei demands tolerance and understanding for death sentence for homosexuality
In a letter to Members of the European Parliament (MEP) dated April 15, the kingdom's mission to the EU wrote Brunei enforced its own legislation in the interest of preserving its traditional, religious and cultural values, and that there was "no one standard that fits all".Death sentences based on somone's crime to be homosexual has got nothing to do with religions, but is only a means of oppressing minorities. Just because people used to believe that it was a misdemeanour to fall in love with the same sex doesn't mean we need to maintain this belief in the new age and even punish it as a capital crime. There's a difference between the knowledge of humans in the middle ages from today's knowledge in anatomy, medicine and the such. Even religions should be able to move forward in acknowledging proven facts.
The MPs also called on the EU to consider asset freezes and visa bans on the South-East Asian nation, and to blacklist nine hotels owned by the Brunei Investment Agency, including The Dorchester in London and The Beverley Hills Hotel in Los Angeles.

On Julian Assange
CNN cited US legal scholar Orin Kerr, who bluntly stated that the two publicly-revealed US charges against Assange—alleging he was involved in a conspiracy to gain unauthorised access to a US government computer—were “a placeholder.” Kerr said they were only “a brief indictment sufficient to get the case started, but very likely only a small part of any case against Assange.”
There is no evidence, in the indictment against Assange, or a supporting affidavit from an FBI special agent, indicating that the password was ever broken. Moreover, as an army intelligence analyst, Manning already had authorised access to all of the material that she would provide to WikiLeaks.
The affidavit against Assange accompanying the indictment, however, incorporates language taken directly from the US Espionage Act. It states that “Manning and Assange had reason to believe that public disclosures of the Afghanistan War reports and Iraq War reports would cause injury to the United States.”
Manning was convicted by court-martial in 2013 of espionage and other offenses for furnishing more than 700,000 documents, videos, diplomatic cables and battlefield accounts to WikiLeaks while she was an intelligence analyst in Iraq.
Her attorneys said among other things that the district court had failed to address her concerns that the government was abusing the grand jury process so it could preview or undermine her testimony as a potential defense witness at a trial.

IRS to release new deadline for Trump's tax returns next month
Neal, who had set a 5 p.m. Tuesday deadline for the IRS to turn over the documents, said in a statement that he plans to "consult with counsel about my next steps.” He is likely to subpoena the documents at some point and, given the administration’s resistance to subpoenas issued or threatened by other committees, the dispute is expected to wind up in court.
"It's already been litigated in the court of public opinion and in the election. The president won it fairly and squarely," he said. "He's the president, and no one cares about ridiculous charges about tax returns and all types of other things Democrats are doubling down on today."
Drumpf is suing House Oversight Chairman Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) to block a subpoena of Drumpf’s financial records from an accounting firm, Mazars USA. Cummings wants the bank records to investigate allegations that Drumpf falsely inflated and deflated asset values to benefit himself, but the president’s lawyers have said House Democrats are abusing their power to try to embarrass Drumpf.

Abandoned toddler spot with phone number attached to his shoe
The agents have taken the boy to a U.S. border station and are attempting to find his parents using the number on his shoes, the officials said. So far, they have been unsuccessful and are in the process of transferring the boy to the care of Health and Human Services.
The incident marks a flashpoint in the rising number of families and children crossing the border in recent months. In March, a total of 8,975 children traveling without their parents, but most often in groups, were apprehended at the southern border. The number of families crossing has also climbed, with 53,077 parents and children crossing the border together last month.

Rochester Drug Cooperative CEO charged by Feds amid opioid crisis
“This prosecution is the first of its kind: executives of a pharmaceutical distributor and the distributor itself have been charged with drug trafficking, trafficking the same drugs that are fueling the opioid epidemic that is ravaging this country. Our Office will do everything in its power to combat this epidemic, from street-level dealers to the executives who illegally distribute drugs from their boardrooms,” U.S. Attorney Geoffrey S. Berman said in a statement.
RDC was also charged with failing to properly report thousands of suspicious orders of oxycodone, fentanyl and other controlled substances to the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), officials said.
In the opioid industry, RDC is a middleman that buys controlled substances from manufacturers and sells them to individual pharmacies. As one of the nation's 10 largest drug distributors, it delivered to more than 1,300 pharmacies and took in over $1 billion in revenue during the relevant five-year period, officials said.

Trump calls for boycott of correspondence dinner
But the president is having none of it. Though Drumpf himself has spurned the annual White House Correspondents’ dinner for the past two years, he’s taking it a step further, ordering administration officials to boycott the dinner, according to two White House officials. Dozens of administration officials have attended the dinner in previous years, but many will be sending rented tuxes and gowns back without wear this year.
The president, who has derided the event as “so boring and negative,” has for the past two years used the evening instead to hold a political rally, where he has railed against the news media. He is set to do so again this year in Green Bay, Wisc.

Press Sec. Sarah H. Sanders avoided formal press conferences for 43 consecutive days, breaking previous highscore by one
The prolonged silence has come amid a particularly chaotic time for the Drumpf administration following the release of special counsel Robert Mueller’s redacted report on the Russia investigation. While it cleared the Drumpf campaign of conspiring with Russia, the 448-page document exposed not only presidential misconduct but also a hotbed of conflict within the White House, where aides routinely ignored the president’s demands.
“If you are the press secretary and you are caught defending an indefensible policy or an indefensible act by the president, you can get pilloried out there for an hour, and the American people see it,” Lee said. “That’s what drives home to everybody watching that you don’t have a leg to stand on and that something has to change. That oftentimes does force change. It’s no accident that they’ve cut that off.”
On Monday, Morning Joe host Mika Brzezinski suggested that media outlets should boycott White House aides “who repeatedly lie.” In late 2018, after CNN’s Jim Acosta had his press pass temporarily revoked, the issue of whether reporters should abstain from pool sprays or press conferences became a major subject of debate.

Microsoft employees protest against Jack Ma's 996 policy
Several local Chinese browsers have already blocked access to 996.ICU, including Tencent, Alibaba, Xiaomi, and Qihoo 360.
"We, the workers of Microsoft and GitHub, support the 996.ICU movement and stand in solidarity with tech workers in China. We know this is a problem that crosses national borders," wrote employees in the petition.
"Another reason we must take a stand in solidarity with Chinese workers is that history tells us that multinational companies will pit workers against each other in a race to the bottom as they outsource jobs and take advantage of weak labour standards in the pursuit of profit," they added.

Philippines' Rodrigo Duterte gives Canada one week to take back trash, otherwise war will be declared
The president of the Philippines says if Canada doesn’t take back tonnes of trash within the next week he will “declare war” and ship the containers back himself. Why did Canada (or Canadian companies) ship their trash to the Philippines? This truly is disgusting, and shouldn't have happened in the first place. I hope that Mr. Trudeau will act soon, so that it won't get as far as to this ridiculous declaration of war.
Filipino media outlets report that Rodrigo Duterte made threats Tuesday about dozens of shipping containers filled with Canadian household and electronic garbage that has been rotting in a port near Manila for nearly six years.

Further information from The Rappler:
"'Yung basura ng Canada, I want a boat prepared. I give a warning to Canada, maybe next week, they better pull their thing up or I will set sail sa Canada, ibuhos ko basura nila doon," Duterte said on Tuesday, April 23 in San Fernando, Pampanga.
"I'll declare war against them, isauli ko talaga tingnan mo (I will really return that, you'll see), karga mo 'yan sa barko, load it to a ship and advise Canada, I will advise Canada that your garbage, prepare a grand reception. Eat it if you want to," Duterte said.

«Umbrella nine» leaders sentenced to jail
A district court judge jailed sociology professor Chan Kin-man, 60, law professor Benny Tai, 54, and Baptist minister the Rev Chu Yiu-ming, 75, to 16 months each for conspiracy to commit public nuisance. Chu’s sentence was suspended for two years.
Raphael Wong and Shiu Ka-chun were sentenced to eight months while former student leader Eason Chung and Democratic party member Lee Wing-tat were given eight-month sentences suspended for two years.
The activists planned to use civil disobedience tactics and occupy Hong Kong’s central business district in hopes that Beijing would allow Hong Kong voters to choose the city’s leader for the first time in history in 2017.

Brazilian court lowers former president Lula da Silva's sentence
The 73-year-old leftist icon, who has been sentenced to 25 years behind bars in two separate corruption cases, marked his first year in jail earlier this month.Lula was originally sentenced to nine and a half years on charges that he accepted a seaside apartment as a bribe for helping the OAS construction company during his 2003-2010 presidency to get lucrative deals with state oil firm Petrobras.
Lula's efforts to get out of jail were dealt a blow recently when the Supreme Court indefinitely delayed debate on whether a prisoner convicted of a non-violent crime should be released before the end of the appeals process, which could have potentially freed him.

Trump met Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey due to decreasing fellowship
Unless either of the men decides to share more about what they discussed we won’t know how things went down exactly, though it’s probably easy enough to guess. According to the Motherboard report, the initial internal Twitter email named “the health of the public conversation on Twitter” as the topic of the day.... To which Donald Trump contributes the most via his witty tweets which keep us informed about his honorary and worthwhile work.
Dorsey tweeted at Drumpf thanking him for the conversation. “Twitter is here to serve the entire public conversation, and we intend to make it healthier and more civil,” Dorsey wrote. “Thanks for the discussion about that.” The Washington Post reports Drumpf complained that the company unjustly “limited or removed some of his followers” in his session with the Twitter CEO. In fact, Drumpf was just tweeting about that earlier in the day. Can't he understand that Twitter usually removes bots and dead accounts? Because at least the first one is the group his fellowship consists of the most.

CNN analysts tied to Qatar—media report
Analysts double as Qatar-tied propagandists, attack Saudi Arabia, UAE
Dubai: US media outlet Conservative Review reported that several of the “so-called national security experts at CNN that you see on television every night have direct links to the nation of Qatar, a terror-funding, Islamist enclave in the Middle East that has placed itself on the warpath against America’s most important regional allies.”
Viewers would never know about the connections “because none of the CNN regulars disclose their financial and/or institutional ties to Qatar when they appear on the airwaves.”
“And off air, they are also not forthcoming about their Qatar-backed connections. Even when it comes to discussing issues where they have a clear conflict of interest, such as commenting on Israeli, Saudi, or UAE affairs, these CNN contributors have no issue going to bat against Qatar’s rivals, while never mentioning that their editorial freedom is restricted or that they are personally compromised,” the magazine reported on Tuesday.
Conservative Review named four “CNN regulars”, including two full-time employees, and said they “double as Qatar-tied propagandists, but you would never know it if you only watched CNN.”
Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt severed ties with Qatar on June 5, 2017 accusing it of harboring extremists and supporting the Muslim Brotherhood.
Several attempts to resolve the conflict have failed in the past two years.

"What's the worst that could happen?"
Well, Jack Bernhardt goes there in an op-ed column for the Guardian, nicely summing up my misgivings about Volodymyr Zelenskiy as well as spreading the ridicule around where it's richly deserved.
Really, what does it say when it's hard to find a dividing line between politics and stand-up comedy?

Tokayev's candidacy received unanimous backing from 600 delegates of the ruling Nur Otan party, which is loyal to 78-year-old Nazarbayev, at a conference in the capital Nur-Sultan, newly named for the former leader.
A seamless transition will reassure foreign investors who have pumped money into the country's energy sector but frustrate those calling for democratic reforms in the authoritarian state.

Saudi Arabia executes 37 death row inmates for terrorist actions
The sentences were carried out in Riyadh, Makkah, Madinah, the Eastern Province, Qassim and Asir regions.I will never get over the fact that a terrorist monarchy executes terrorists for their terrorist actions against their country. This is simply beyond me to understand.
The men were executed for adopting terrorist and extremist ideology and for forming terrorist cells to corrupt and destabilize security as well as spread chaos and provoke sectarian strife, an Interior Ministry statement said.
The convicts were also found guilty of attacking headquarters of security forces by using explosives, and killing a number of security men.

On Henry Kissinger's failed speech at New York University and Conservatism at colleges
1. The Bulwark:
In the ‘60s, it was the revolutionary counterculture and the rise of the New Left. Today, it is the scourge of identity politics and the attendant intersectionality, trigger warnings, among other signs of radical left dominance among students and faculty alike.I wouldn't call it the radical left but the whimpy left. This has got nothing to do with radicalism but rather with emotionalism. You simply have to tell them that when they can't stand the heat, they should stay out of the kitchen. Something like that.
Still, you shouldn't give somebody like Milo a stage, at least not at campus. He's got nothing to do with politics but only with populism. and colleges should not be the place to promote populism. I was fine with Jordan Peterson, but Milo crosses a line of decency.
Student groups invite conservative speakers ranging from the reasonable to the incendiary to campus and then sit back and wait for the inevitable protests. They call out left-wing professors who silence dissent.True. Once the whimpy left shut down each Conservative voice, the right didn't care anymore who they invited because it didn't matter in terms of protesters who are going to counter his or her attendance.
Conservatives can mock Obama for having been a “community activist” all they want – at least the left understands the importance of the local. Read through the aims of many a left-wing group on campus and you’ll see an intense focus on forming local groups and alliances, on strengthening community, on stuff normal people can contribute to and appreciate. Conservatives can, at best, offer scintillating intellectual debate on high principle and occasional voting advice.Funnily, I always thought that Conservatives were the people who cared most for local affairs. Yet in the end, the very opposite seems to be the case.
Murray had written in a book that racial differences in intelligence might to some extent be hereditary. Former NYPD commissioner Raymond Kelly supported the “racist” stop-and-frisk policy. And Peter Thiel was forced to leave a 2014 speech at UC Berkeley by students shouting “No police state!” and “Black lives matter!” But it’s not clear what the students thought Mr. Thiel had to do with any of that. The first one is inarguably racist when he thinks that you could differ someone's intellect regarding his origin, we've been through race biology before and have proven it wrong. Why bring it up again? As for the second one, the stop-and-frisk policy is not inherently racist, but when this policy comes into action, those who are going to become targeted the most by it are people of minority origins, those who look non-white. It's not the policy but those who are told to execute it.
As for Peter Thiel, I don't get this either. He's a douche, no doubt, but what they shouted truly doesn't match up. I guess that some of them didn't know who's walking there.
But the students who object so strenuously to Kissinger’s “war crimes” are the same students who wear Che Guevara t-shirts and quote Mao. They do not criticize (or are unaware of) North Vietnam’s mass-murder campaign following the American withdrawal.Oh God, do they really quote Mao? I own a small pocketbook with quotes of his, but would never tend to quote him publicly. Maybe in my blog when it matches what I write, but even this would be a scarce encounter. He's simply too brutal to enhance one's reader, he functions like a scarecrow.
And this is an exceptionally, almost disarmingly naïve approach. I recently learned how a liberal friend of mine from New York was shocked to discover, on a visit to a Middle Eastern country that wasn’t Israel, that to be publicly identifiable as a Jew was not just unwise but could actually be dangerous. It had not occurred to him that a universal acceptance of other cultures was not itself a universal value.Holy hell, which road did we take in development of university campuses?
This grotesque and ahistorical attack is by no means the first. In the 2016 presidential campaign, independent socialist candidate Bernie Sanders attacked Hilary Clinton for being a friend of “Kissinger, the war criminal of Cambodia.”Sometimes I wonder which role figures like Hillary Clinton (in the Bush administration) and Henry Kissinger (in Vietnam, Cambodia, and so on) played, and whether one doesn't do them wrong when calling them out this way.
I feel some responsibility for the Cambodia part of such attacks. Almost 40 years ago, in 1979, I published a book called “Sideshow: Kissinger, Nixon and the Destruction of Cambodia.” It was a tough book, based on thousands of pages of U.S. government documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act and hundreds of interviews. Its argument was that massive U.S. bombing and other careless Nixon-Kissinger White House policies toward Cambodia had created the conditions in which the genocidal communist Khmer Rouge came to power in 1975.Oh, ok, they may have gotten a point there, I leave this to them.
I do not agree with everything that Kissinger has done, and I imagine there are decisions that he too regrets. But he is an extraordinary man who deserves respect. He came to the U.S. in 1938 as a 15-year-old exile from Nazi Germany, and returned there to fight the Nazis as a young GI in 1944. He wrote to his parents, “I feel proud and happy to be able to enter here as a free American soldier.”

Manfred Weber promises/threatens to obstruct construction of Nord Strem 2 if elected EU Commission's president
"I am against this project. It's not in the interest of the European Union," he said. "As the head of the European Commission, I will use all available laws to block Nord Stream 2," the German centre-right European People's Party candidate told the paper.True. I too am not interested in continuing to depend on Russian gas. We have to become independent from them so that we won't be that easy a target to Russian blackmailing. You know it is the worst kind of blackmailing you were ever going to experience.
Opinion polls ahead of the May 23-26 European elections show the EPP would remain the biggest party in the European Parliament, giving Weber a solid chance of becoming Commission president, though he may face resistance from governments who do not want to be bound to choose from among party leaders.

Trump to visit France and England amid D-Day commemorations
Previous to his visit, I would like to demand every member of his administration to be briefed on what has happened during D-Day, so that we can avoid the fauxpas that we were sadly to experience the year before. We don't need any further exhibition of his administration's incapability to recall historic events of this expense. Thanks a lot!
Remember the outstanding relationship between Germany and the US: The Independent
“President Donald J. Drumpf and First Lady Melania Drumpf accepted the invitation of Her Royal Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to visit the United Kingdom from June 3 to 5, 2019,” a statement said. “This state visit will reaffirm the steadfast and special relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom. This surely is going to be an exciting encounter again, I'm looking forward to following the live coverage.
Drumpf will also participate in a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Theresa May and attend a ceremony in Portsmouth to mark the 75th anniversary of D-Day, before traveling to France on June 6, to participate in a ceremony at the Normandy American Cemetery and meet with French President Emmanuel Macron.
Drumpf has had a somewhat rocky relationship with both May and Macron. While his relationship with May has largely been positive, he has also publicly criticized her handling of Britain’s departure from the European Union.I would rather say that he was threatening the English administration that if they didn't get their exit done, he would break up any relationship with this country. More or less, this was what he said. I may be mistaken, although I hardly believe that.
On France, let us all remember what happened in this context: BBC
And finally, the report about his state visits: Fox News

«Donald Trump is cancer», opines husband to Kellyanne Conway, George Conway
That’s especially damning because the ultimate issue shouldn’t be — and isn’t — whether the president committed a criminal act. As I wrote not long ago, Americans should expect far more than merely that their president not be provably a criminal. In fact, the Constitution demands it.
Trump tried to “limit the scope of the investigation.” He tried to discourage witnesses from cooperating with the government through “suggestions of possible future pardons.” He engaged in “direct and indirect contacts with witnesses with the potential to influence their testimony.” A fair reading of the special counsel’s narrative is that “the likely effect” of these acts was “to intimidate witnesses or to alter their testimony,” with the result that “the justice system’s integrity [was]threatened.” Page after page, act after act, Mueller’s report describes a relentless torrent of such obstructive activity by Trump.
The investigation that Trump tried to interfere with here, to protect his own personal interests, was in significant part an investigation of how a hostile foreign power interfered with our democracy. If that’s not putting personal interests above a presidential duty to the nation, nothing is.

Why are people upset about the term «Easter worshippers»?
The term is more descriptive than “Christians,” because it conveys the additional fact that the victims were actively celebrating Easter when they were killed. They are worshippers, and it is Easter. If it helps, try putting the emphasis on worshippers in the phrase: It’s Easter worshippers, not Easter-worshippers.So far, trying to argue about the use of the alternate term «Easter worshipper» instead of «Christian» is close to futile. It may either mark the futility of even thinking about it, or the difficulty to argue in favour of Barack Obama.
If anything, “Easter worshippers” puts extra emphasis on the religious nature of the attack by pointing out that it happened on a day of special spiritual meaning to victims. It implies: Not only did you attack Christians, you did it today of all days.
(In other contexts, in fact, conservative Christians make the point that not all holiday churchgoers are “real” Christians. As early-20th-century evangelist Billy Sunday once put it: “Going to church doesn’t make you a Christian any more than going to a garage makes you an automobile.”)

Did anyone ever mind that the Constitution was written in a time in which some of the things that have to be ruled nowadays might have not existed yet? I mean, we are talking about cars that stand in places in which their parking time might have expired already. We are talking about cases that would have been impossible to even know at the time in which the Constitution was written. To rule according to her is ridiculous. You are trying to fit in amendments and laws that are not up to date, on occassions that have overtaken the Constitution by decades.
Taylor claimed the city’s practice of marking the tires of parked cars with chalk constituted a warrantless search and violated her Fourth Amendment rights. The chalk marks are used to determine whether a car has stayed in the same parking spot beyond its allowed time limit.
She continued, “The city does not show that the location or length of time that Taylor’s vehicle was parked created the type of ‘hazard’ or traffic impediment amounting to a public safety concern. Nor does the city demonstrate that delaying a search would result in ‘injury or ongoing harm to the community.’”

Social services are running out of money, cutting benefits by 35 percent
"Lawmakers have many policy options that would reduce or eliminate the long-term financing shortfalls in Social Security and Medicare," according to an administration statement. "Lawmakers should address these financial challenges as soon as possible."Does this also apply for the Senate? I would really love to see how they fell into a mental dilemma between serving the people and decreasing the state.
"Americans pay into these essential programs throughout their working lives, and they expect to receive the benefits they’ve earned," said Rep. Richard Neal of Massachusetts, the Democratic chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.
"Social Security’s total cost is projected to exceed its total income (including interest) in 2020 for the first time since 1982, and to remain higher throughout the remainder of the projection period," the report found.

Final appeal for Reuters journalists rejected by Myanmar's highest court
Wa Lone, 33, and Kyaw Soe Oo, 29, have spent more than 16 months in detention since they were arrested in December 2017 while working on an investigation into the killing of 10 Rohingya Muslim men and boys.Only calling for it wont' be enough and is not going to release them from their unjust imprisonment. What is required is an international communtiy that will intervene in this country to free those public servants, united. Otherwise, they are going to rot in this prison for seven years, unless an insurgent army for truthful reporters will get them out the unorthodox way.
“The United Nations will continue to call for full respect of freedom of the press and human rights,” he said in a statement. “Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo should be allowed to return to their families and continue their work as journalists.”
Panei Mon, Wa Lone’s wife, who gave birth to their first child last year, said she had been “hoping for the best”.
