y la sombra no se va
¿de cuándo a acá
esas cabezas están juntas?
las hierbas se abren paso
y los ojos tristes reflexionan
¿es este un encuentro fortuito,
nunca más nos veremos?

what are we going to do,

the field of vision increases
i can't situate
the sensations
anymore
a self-made illusion
what has your sight perceived?
ink in a wrist, what are you?
there was never a fixed reality

always from the sun

There is a feeling I want my poems to have specific to Japan, that doesn't quite have the same equivalent, except for those who are the most staunch of weibos.

Basically a kind of "French Fever" for Spain or France, coming from the perspective of…

That flower in hair
Withering in the cold wind...
Time flows within.

Her song with guitar
Makes verse ajar.
In the chilled wind.
Alone in wind calling
From a cliff falling.

A life into abyss,
Into a world beyond time. #hybrid #poetry

I have a bit of a complicated relationship with Spanish music and culture, a bit much to go into here, though my fiction and autobiographies are rife with it.

But it's nice to find Spanish music from a non Spanish source:

https://invidio.us/watch?v=CQmYF3gP3sA

I wonder what the equivalent would be for French music? Like if there is a second mother country for Chanson.

Oh and there is an actual syllabic structure for Flamenco:

Mine tend to be a fusion of Spanish and French forms, with some Japanese poetry influences. #poetry #amwriting

Darling I Love You

by Richard Welker

In the dark of the early morning,
I hear the sound of heavy men with dogs,
drones, devices and shame,
hunting fallen angels in the swamp.

My chest is heavy, hard to breathe,
pounding panic overtakes me.
Is it thick toxic gas,
or the sound of my own breaking heart?

“What is wrong with me?” I cry out.
I forget this is just another form
of torment, a jailer with a baton raking
the bars of my own soul.

I remember then to say, out loud,
“Darling I love you,
Darling I accept you.
Darling I thank you
Darling I respect you.”

I know the sky is burning,
the animals dying, the trees falling.
Maybe it’s a message to hold
my neighbor’s tears in cupped hands.

There is a saying from ancient times,
“If you are planting a tree when the... show more

Do students become incapable of reading classical literature due to technology?

Caprock Academy offers a classical education, and students are given approximately six books a year in core literature classes. For example, freshmen read The Epic of Gilgamesh, Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey, Sophocles’ Three Theban Plays, Hesiod’s Theogony and Works and Days, and Aeschylus’ Oresteia. They also study Virgil’s Aeneid in Latin I.
Woah, damn... This is a great bunch of Greek classical literature, I'm impressed. I wished they'd given me this opportunity to receive all of these works for free and while still in school.
I’ve overheard students bragging about how much time they devote to video games — one 17-year-old proudly calculated that he’d spent two years of his life playing one single game. Unsurprisingly, this student barely graduated from high school, despite being a conspicuously bright young man. How his parents couldn’t see that he was addicted to video games and intervene, I

The #FinancialTimes interviewed Artists at Risk (AR) founders Marita Muukkonen and Ivor Stodolsky for a leading feature on “The Art of Protest”:

'Ivor Stodolsky, who set up AR along with fellow curator Marita Muukkonen in 2013 to provide residencies for visual artists at risk of persecution in their homelands, suggests that the new threat to artists stems ultimately from the growing power of the media in which they work. “The 21st century is a visual culture,” he says. “It’s beginning to be our dominant form."

Stodolsky believes that one of the reasons artists are in trouble is because “today, visual art is about more than just visuals”. Indeed, the art world is an increasingly cross-disciplinary landscape. Once the province of painting and sculpture, it now encompasses photography, film, sound and performance. The Russian collective Pussy Riot, for example — whom AR assist — pursue a practice that mixes performance art w... show more

How many people contributed to the epic poem «Beowulf»?

Using a statistical approach known as stylometry, which analyzes everything from the poem’s meter to the number of times various combinations of letters show up in the text, Krieger and his colleagues found new evidence that “Beowulf” is the work of a single author. The study is described in an April 8 paper published in the journal Nature Human Behaviour.
Those computers can tell us quite a lot, I must admit. We should use them more often in academic research. I guess that we could get a lot more of our work done with these mysterious machineries.
“We looked at four broad categories of items in the text,” Krieger said. “Each line has a meter, and many lines have what we call a sense pause, which is a small pause between clauses and sentences similar to the pauses we typically mark with punctuation in modern English. We also looked at aspects of word choice.

“The handwriting is different,” Krieger s

The inquiring answer

What would I do without my name?
Would I continue this game?

What would I do without my age?
Would I break out of this cage?

What would I do without my mind?
Would I take a single look behind?

What would I do without my heart?
Would I accept myself or break apart?

What would I do without my origins?
Would I still succumb to my sins?

Any answer you will find in you.
Any answer brings a fresh view.

The Server (with apologies to Edgar Allen Poe)

Once upon a midday dreary, while I Googled weak and weary,
Over many a quant and curious site of forgotten lore,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a beeping,
As of something gently beeping, beeping on the server room floor.
“’Tis some server,” I muttered, “beeping on the floor --
Only this and nothing more.”

(On 2014 Sep 04, I submitted this as the text in a work order and assigned it to the infrastructure group within the IT department I worked in. They did not silence the alarm. In fact, they ignore the ticket for a few weeks, then closed it with no action taken.)

Simran Practice, the Repetition of a Name or Names of God -- Mystic Poetry of Sant Dadu Dayal of Rajasthan

The repetition of the holy names is the truest spiritual technique. An uninterrupted inner repetition of the holy names given by the living Master has to be practiced daily with love, devotion and one-pointed attention. One thereby transcends one’s body and is transported to the realms of light.

The repetition develops into an ongoing spontaneous process, and one catches the unceasing inner Music, which takes him to its Source and reveals God face to face. One is therefore exhorted to search daily for the Source of this Unstruck Music. Whatever one does and wherever one happens to be, he is asked to be a sacrifice unto His Name and to have ardent longing to behold Him and hear his voice.

The Name functions at two levels: at a human level as the holy words granted by a true living Master, which are repeated to focus th... show more

Book of poems, lyrics and art by Joni Mitchell to be published commercially

But now publishers Canongate in the UK, and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt in the US, will release facsimile editions on 22 October, complete with a new introduction from Mitchell and additional paintings. The book features handwritten lyrics and poems, along with watercolour paintings depicting “a superb array of landscapes, still lifes, portraits of friends, self-portraits, innovative abstractions, and more”. The publication is part of celebrations of Mitchell’s 75th birthday year, which have also included a tribute album and concert.

“Joni Mitchell’s influence on popular culture is peerless. There is simply no one like her,” he said. “Her fearless pursuit of honesty and art, her gift for storytelling and her incalculably beautiful melodies and voice – all of these have been inspirations and companions to me, and to so many others, for decades.”

Not my work ...

One of them, anyway. The middle one.
Kurt Travis used cigarettes to escape the pressure of living up to his predecessor. The previous lead singer of Dance Gavin Dance, Jonny Craig, had been an extraordinary vocalist, despite his heroin addiction. It was only after he missed his cue at a show, due to impairment, that he was forced to leave the band, and Travis was recruited to replace him. Craig’s legacy wasn’t easy to match, especially with harsh criticism from fans, and Travis smoked more and more. Though his anxiety was lessened, his voice steadily degraded. Despite his promises to improve, he found difficulty hitting the high notes in his range, and was unable to do well in live performances. He was removed from Dance Gavin Dance, but in the aftermath, he was eventually able to quit smoking and regain his voice. He joined a new band, A Lot Like Birds, and wrote a new song, No Nurture, in which he reflected on his struggles and everything he had overcome.
