Two fact-checks on the Notre Dame burning yesterday
1. Misleading tweet by Faith J. Goldy, trying to allege jihadists for arson: Truth Or Fiction?
However, the second tweet received under two dozen shares, while the misleading one was shared thousands of times. Moreover, when screenshots of the tweet migrated to platforms like Facebook, they lacked a live link to the article, the “correction,” and the complete headline which clearly contradicted Goldy’s claims.
Old news stories with headlines that do not specify a timeframe are often weaponized by disinformation purveyors to great effect, as many people cannot or will not read the linked story because of time constraints or a paywall. Newsrooms can avoid this and other pitfalls by changing the headlines on old stories and clearly labeling publishing dates. We detail this and other easy methods for stopping or slowing the spread of weaponized disinformation and corrosive propaganda here.
2. Fabricated low-quality video alleges Muslim of starting fire in Notre Dame: PolitiFact
The 18-second clip shows a man walking in one of the cathedral’s towers not long after the fire started. The video’s caption says: "No workers present at the time that the Notre Dame Cathedral fire started......So who is this guy dressed in Muslim garb??"
The person in the picture isn’t dressed in "Muslim garb" — the person is a firefighter.
The clip was plucked from CNBC’s three-hour livestream of the fire and can be seen around the 42-minute mark.
The clip is from an authentic media live stream of the Notre Dame fire, but displays a lower-quality and cropped version that doesn’t allow the viewer to clearly see it was a firefighter. The clip also doesn’t last long enough to show other firefighters who show up in the same area moments later, and is cropped to omit the water hoses being used to fight the fire.

Runaway Negro Creek changed to Freedom Creek due to offensive name
On Thursday the U.S. Board on Geographic Names voted to make things right and change the name of the waterway called Runaway Negro Creek, to Freedom Creek, after residents lobbied to remove the culturally insensitive term, Savannah Now reports. And only two years later, they finally made it, found this creek a new name. And so creative!, to call it Freedom Creek, because African-American slaves may have found their freedom when running down this creek. Great!
According to a press release from Sen. Lester Jackson (D-District 2), the name change was originally proposed after a public interest meeting during the summer of 2017, where residents voiced concerns saying it was culturally insensitive.

Backlash after Ilhan Omar-9/11 reference grows
The video Drumpf retweeted on Friday pulls a snippet of Omar's recent speech to the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in which she described the 2001 attack on New York's World Trade Center as "some people did something" and includes news footage of the hijacked planes hitting the Twin Towers.Remember: This is like sending Trump death threats after he failed to fully punish the attacker at the Unite The Right rallye. It didn't happen. Why? Because left-wingers follow by a codex of minimum decency. The right fails to grow this certain amount of decency. Therefore, Ms. Omar's life is threatened by now.
The Muslim politician also tweeted a quote from former President George W Bush, who said days after the attacks: "The people - and the people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon!"They knocked them down. You couldn't find a more misplaced expression to a terrorist attack than this one. I'm impressed those wanna-be Conservatives ran after him for having ridiculised this attack already. It must be because he invaded the Middle East shortly after, and - of course - because he's a white Christian man.
"Was Bush downplaying the terrorist attack?" Omar tweeted. "What if he was a Muslim."
Javier Munoz, star of the Broadway hit Hamilton, also hit back at Drumpf, saying "it's absolutely NOT normal to demonise" Omar with "anti-Muslim rhetoric", while Ibram X Kendi, a professor at the American University, said anyone who did not stand with Omar "stands with Islamophobia, with racism, with politicians deploying lies to inflame racial and religious terror in the country".

Pete Buttigiegs (D - IN) perfect image starts to crack
An Indiana judge will rule soon on whether to release five cassette tapes of secretly recorded conversations between South Bend police officers that led to the 2012 demotion of Police Chief Darryl Boykins, the city’s first ever black police chief.
Buttigieg’s critics say he’s gone to great lengths to conceal the contents of the tapes, which some believe could include racist language by white police officers.
“There’s a level of frustration,” said Karen White, a city councilwoman and Democrat who is black. “We want this issue to be brought to closure to ensure this issue does not polarize our community further. We have a right to know [what’s on the tapes], as do our citizens."

White Nationalism hearing escalates as right-winged pundit Candace Owen's comments on Hitler were heard
Both sides of the aisle were eager to note just how forcefully, at least superficially, they condemned white nationalism. Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) opened the hearings by saying it was “sadly necessary to examine an urgent crisis in our country.” Ranking member Doug Collins (R-GA), meanwhile, claimed that House Republicans had “led the chamber’s unequivocal revocation of white nationalism.”Guess who has committed more crimes in the meantime: Unite The Right, or the Black Identity Movement? I guess that even the police has committed more crimes than those BI Extremists...
Some of those testifying did address glaring problems in the current approach to combating white nationalism. Eileen Hershenov of the Anti-Defamation League noted how fringe online communities like Gab and 8chan had created “24/7 white nationalist rallies.” Kristen Clarke of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law asked why the FBI had devoted resources to investigating Black Identity Extremists while allowing white supremacist movements to grow at an alarming rate.
Owens responded by claiming Lieu was racist. “I think its apparent that Mr. Lieu thinks that black people are stupid and will not pursue the full clip in its entirety,” she said before Nadler cut her off.If I am not mistaken (I didn't watch it (yet)), this is the video one has to watch to hear her remark in full length. I will leave it for those who are interested in hearing how much she was distorted during the hearing, although I don't believe it can become any better than her stating Hitler only wanted to make Germany great again by extincting minorities to maintain an ethnically clean Herenmenschen society: USA TODAY and video of hers
What can be said at the least it that those who are responsible for the surge in hate crimes have exposed themselves during the hearing. So to say, the hearing was worth it because now, we know that the Republicans will stay the major threat to a safer society. Beside fearmongering, whitewashing their own and making false claims against Democrats, they had nothing to present. Thanks a lot.

Petition to ban Swedish Youtube star Pewdiepie didn't surprise him at all
Felix went to counter the allegations of instances in which he had been accused of propagating white supremacy. Some of them, according to the Felix, were fake and didn't happen at all, while the others he explained by saying that hey happened a long time ago.The article from WSJ: Wall Street Journal
The response comes after Maria Ruiz's petition, which called for putting a stop to normalizing white supremacy on the internet and referred to PewDiePie's channel as hotbed of fomenting white-supremacist ideas, gathered over 77,000 signatures.
This is not the first time that the Swedish content-creator has faced flak for racism and white-supremacist content. In 2017, US's Wall Street Journal uncovered nine videos and clips of the Swede in which he can allegedly be seen displaying anti-Semitic and racist content.

Motel 6 to pay $12 mn in order to avoid lawsuit filed by state of Washington
The budget motel operator illegally shared the personal information of about 80,000 customers for more than two years, resulting in a "targeted" ICE investigation into guests with Latino-sounding names, the Washington state attorney general's office announced Thursday.Welcome to the US - where you can be arrested for having a Latino-sounding name, although you legally live in this country and work for a living to support your wife and your five children. You better be white.
"Each time Motel 6 released a guest list, it included the private information of every guest at the hotel without their knowledge or consent, violating their expectation of privacy," Attorney General Bob Ferguson's office said in a statement. "The Motel 6 guest information disclosures led to significant harmful consequences, including the detention and deportation of many guests and the suffering of their families."
"ICE agents approached him in the hotel's parking lot, detained him and deported him some days later. His wife had to retrieve the presents and his other belongings from the Motel 6 after his arrest," the attorney general's office said. "The man was the sole provider for the household, and his wife is currently struggling to support their toddler and four other children."

Three predominantly black churches victimised by arsonists
Mount Pleasant is about 10 miles south of Greater Union Baptist Church, which burned down early Tuesday. St. Mary Baptist Church in Port Barre was destroyed in a fire early in the morning on March 26.Either racism or reformative stances that fell to high dislike among a disappointed churchgoer. This question will be disclosed to the police who hopefully will soon solve the puzzle that is hereby given.
The fire consumed the inside of the rural church, burning holes through the roof, but leaving much of the brick exterior standing. At daybreak, smoke continued rising from the historic structure.
“My church has a lot of history,” he said. “I don’t understand it. What could make a person do that to a church?”

South Africa downgrades embassy to Israel, subsequent to op-ed by former ANC minister Ronnie Kasriels
First, the op-ed, published by The Guardian:
Israel’s repression of Palestinian citizens, African refugees and Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and Gaza has become more brutal over time. Ethnic cleansing, land seizure, home demolition, military occupation, bombing of Gaza and international law violations led Archbishop Tutu to declare that the treatment of Palestinians reminded him of apartheid, only worse. The question is what their reasoning was, why did they cancel this event? Did they publish a statement about this cancelling? Seemingly not. All I found was this article published by Hyperallergic, but beside this - nothing.
Last week, a public meeting in Vienna where I was scheduled to speak in support of Palestinian freedom, as part of the global Israeli Apartheid Week, was cancelled by the museum hosting the event – under pressure from Vienna’s city council, which opposes the international movement to divest from Israel.
By contrast, Netanyahu’s Likud is desperately courting extremist parties, and abandoning any pretext of negotiating with the Palestinians. His plan to bring an extremist settler party and Kahanist terrorist party into his governing coalition is obscene. His most serious opponent is a general accused of war crimes in Gaza. As long as a repressive apartheid-like regime rules, things will only worsen for Palestinians and Israelis too.
Now for the actual report, published by African News Network:
Sisulu also announced on Thursday in an address to the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA) in Johannesburg that eventually, Israel would no longer have an ambassador in South Africa. Sisulu told SAIIA that the ruling party ANC already had “no relations with Israel” and would like the government to adopt that position as soon as possible. To break up relations with a nation when it comes to disliking the country's policy in any terms is never a worthwhile decision. This way, you are going to change nothing, but even have less influence in the decision-making itself. What you do is a fatal mistake in many regards.

Racist lawyer spat into flight attendant's face after racist tirade
Judge Nicholas Wood, sentencing at Isleworth Crown Court in the UK, told Simone Burns: "The experience of a drunk and irrational person in the confines of an aircraft is frightening, not least on a long-haul flight and poses a potential risk to safety."Why the hell did she have to be drunk and Irish? This is such a cliché. Of course not the fact that she was racist, this is rather unusual, but the fact that she was drunk, on a flight, and she even is a lawyer, a business that is required a tad more decency, at least to my understanding. God damn, there are things I wish I had never read in my life.
Burns (50), who is known as Simone O Broin, of First Avenue, Hove, sat quietly in the dock as she was sentenced to six months for being drunk on an aircraft and two months for assault. Can we assume that she didn't bring her own booze with her? Because then, she cannot be told guilty on her own misdemeanour, because she probably was served the alcohol by the flight attendant, which means that they could've said that she will no longer be served any more alcohol. I mean, bartenders have the same duty: To not serve any more alcohol to a customer when it can be recognised that the customer is on the verge to being drunk.

19-year old dies for having knocked at the wrong door while being black
"He pleaded for his life. He was like, 'Hold on, I am sorry, I am sorry' and the dude shot him," a witness said. You don't protect your family when you behave like a mad paranoid and shoot down innocents. He was not involved in his truck theft, he didn't do anything to him. He even cried that he was sorry, there was no need to shoot him down. But as it seems, gunning down others when feeling offended must be a usual action in the US, land of the free and of a party that thinks that more guns will create more safety. This is some fucked-up shit.
"He has five kids, he was literally protecting his family. His truck was stolen earlier this week. Right now, that's all they're trying to do is protect their family," Makayla Johnson said.

Is Israel moving towards the far right wing?
In fact, just last May, Israel passed a nation-state law, which ended once and for all, any supposed confusion about Israel's identity. The new law openly declared Israel as "the nation state of the Jewish people", completely disregarding the Palestinian people and marginalising their rights, culture, language and history.Ehhh.... Ok?...
Camus, himself, has expressed his admiration for Israel on a number of occasions. In December 2017, after Donald Drumpf moved the US embassy to Jerusalem, he tweeted: "Jerusalem is the capital of Israel. Israel is a model of resistance. We must make Europe a greater Israel".
"There is nothing wrong with preserving our own Judeo-Christian civilization. That is our duty […] Look at Israel, learn from Israel; Israel is an island in a sea of Islamic barbarism. Israel is a beacon of freedom and prosperity in a region of Islamic darkness. Israel refuses to be overrun by jihadists. So should we."
Both Wilders and Robinson have received money from the pro-Israel think-tank, the Middle East Forum, to offset their legal costs after they were charged with incitement of hate against Muslims.

AfD-MdL Winhart erstattet Anzeige gegen Entertainerin Enissa Amani

Mother to fatally shot son Antwon Rose II. still fighting for justice
Former East Pittsburgh police officer Michael Rosfeld fatally shot Rose in the back, arm and side of the face as the 17-year-old fled from an unlicensed taxi that Rosfeld had pulled over following a drive-by shooting.
The teen "was unarmed, and he did not pose a threat to the officer or to the community, and the verdict today says that is OK, that is acceptable behavior from a police," Merritt added.
Zaijuan Hester, 18, who was in the car with Rose before he was killed, pleaded guilty last week to charges related to the drive-by shooting.

Why fascists have always been trolls
The Nazis were dedicated trolls who weaponized their insincerity to take advantage of liberal societies ill-equipped to confront them. This was not done just for political advantage—rather, the insincerity itself was a moral act, an expression of contempt for the weak.
The original Nazis were open about their intentions, but their strategic insincerity created a fog of doubt that allowed observers to avoid the obvious. In 1922, The New York Times infamously declared that many believed “Hitler’s anti-Semitism was not so genuine or violent as it sounded, and that he was merely using anti-Semitic propaganda as a bait to catch masses of followers and keep them aroused, enthusiastic, and in line for the time when his organization is perfected and sufficiently powerful to be employed effectively for political purposes.” In 1930, even after the Nazis had become the second-largest party in the German legislature, the Times assured its readers that “there is no present basis for assuming that the Nazis will attempt to make anti-Semitism a militant issue in their legislative program.”
And now, they do the same thing again, claiming that all this right-winged trolling via memes on the internet was just childish behaviour and could be taken with a grain of salt. Of course, history never repeats because people learn from the past, am I right? Of course I am, human evolution is flawless in its zenith that has reached in the 21st century, also nicknamed the era of anthropocene.
“Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words,” wrote Jean-Paul Sartre in his 1946 essay “Anti-Semite and Jew.” “The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors.”

On the aftermath of an underfunded judiciary system
Evans’s record against Flowers is 1–5. First, he obtained a conviction that was set aside by the state appeals courts because of misconduct designed to confuse and mislead the jury—he introduced evidence of crimes that were not before the court; implied that he had evidence that a defense witness had lied when there was no such evidence; and told the jury about “taped statements” by Flowers that didn’t exist. In the next two trials, he obtained convictions by engaging in the precise misconduct alleged in this case: intentionally using race to skew the jury against Flowers, who is African American.
If challenges by a prosecutor (or, less often, a defense lawyer) seem to follow a racial pattern, opposing counsel may allege a “prima facie” case of discrimination; if the judge agrees that there is a questionable pattern, he or she convenes a “Batson hearing,” in which the lawyer using the challenges is allowed to give a “non-racial” reason for each challenge.

Rep. Steve King (R - IA) uncertain about whether a white society was superior to a nonwhite one
“I don’t have an answer for that. That’s so hypothetical,” Mr. King, Republican of Iowa, told her. “I’ll say this, America is not a white society — it has never been a completely white society. We came here and joined the Native Americans.”
I wouldn't call a genocidal commitment and the full displacement of Natives from their homeland joining.
Mr. King again faced scrutiny on Monday after a post on his Facebook page speculated who would win a second civil war between red states and blue states.
On Tuesday, pressed by a reporter from CNN, Mr. King told constituents that he “wasn’t aware” that the image had been published on his Facebook page the night before, and said he does not personally manage that page.
Reminds me of the N. C. (?) Senator who was unaware of the Andrew Jackson biography in his office which was coincidentally opened on a page that intentionally degraded Natives to bare savages. Oh, the irony, huh?

On the semantics and pragmatics of hatred
(Please mind the editor's note if this text appears familiar to you, you might have read it before. Trump has also spoken positively about the manifesto the Christchurch shooter has written and published. He doesn't think that White Nationalism was an actual threat, in the country that is home to the KKK and Madison Grant. One should really know about one's country's history and presence. Trump, on the other hand, is part of the problem, altogether.)
This seems to be part of a broader developing idea: ignore the tweets. Ignore Drumpf’s inflammatory language. Ignore the words. What counts is the policy outcomes. People took Drumpf’s “American carnage” inaugural address seriously, but after an exhausting year, it’s tempting to find an excuse to stop listening.
Politics is persuasion as well as coercion. Immediate policy outcomes mainly have to do with coercion: who is taxed, regulated, expropriated, imprisoned, deported, conscripted, what wars are fought, who is kept out of the country by force of arms. This can’t be neglected, of course. The early theorists of “deliberative democracy” in the 1990s seemed to overestimate the importance of speech in politics, imagining a world in which high-minded parliamentary debate on the floor of the legislature regularly changes lawmakers’ minds and supersedes partisan positions, or in which voters engage in jury-like deliberations forever, never reaching a vote or the coercion that follows.
The generations of work that created the liberal international order can’t be undone in a year, but Drumpf has made an impressive start, antagonizing democratic allies (other than Israel), praising autocratic rivals (Russia) and the turn to autocracy in unstable allies (the Philippines), and conveying unmistakable contempt to countries in Latin America and Africa.
Drumpf’s tweet that his “I too have a Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger & more powerful one than his, and my Button works!” [sic, sic, sic] isn’t a set of mere words to ignore; they’re words that affect the world, and to all evidence convey a sincere willingness to start a disastrous war to prove his own manhood.
Fox News’ constant public delegitimation of the civil service matters. It matters in particular for the Russia investigation, of course. Drumpf means to push out anyone who isn’t on “his team,” in a way that the FBI and the Department of Justice are really not supposed to be, and that process is underway in front of our eyes. But it also matters more broadly for the character of the American state and bureaucracy. By discouraging professionals and encouraging politicization, Drumpf is already changing the civil service by his speech.
Drumpf’s words have sent the message of “anything goes” to ICE and “you should be scared” to those who might be vulnerable to ICE. Both messages have been heard. ICE has become so aggressive in its tactics that a federal judge described it as “treatment we associate with regimes we revile as unjust, regimes where those who have long lived in a country may be taken without notice from streets, home, and work. And sent away.”
In their important new book How Democracies Die, the political scientists Steven Levitsky and Daniel Ziblatt point to the delegitimation of the independent press as one of the key warning signs of a genuine would-be autocrat. They note the parallel between Drumpf characterizing the media as the “enemy of the American people,” his expressed desire to “open up” libel laws, and his “fake news” campaign and the words that preceded action in democratic breakdowns elsewhere. We don’t know how far Drumpf will be able to go in his attempts to suppress the media, but we know that he’s persuaded millions of Republicans to let him try.
But all those presidents put forward a public rhetorical face that was better than their worst acts. This inevitably drives political opponents crazy: they despise the hypocrisy and the halo that good speeches put on undeserving heads.

The mysterious deaths of two young BLM protesters in Ferguson, Missouri
Police say there is no evidence the deaths have anything to do with the protests stemming from a white police officer’s fatal shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown, and that only two were homicides with no known link to the protests.
— Edward Crawford Jr., 27, fatally shot himself in May 2017 after telling acquaintances he had been distraught over personal issues, police said. A photo of Crawford firing a tear gas canister back at police during a Ferguson protest was part of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s Pulitzer Prize-winning coverage.
Bush said her car has been run off the road, her home has been vandalized, and in 2014 someone shot a bullet into her car, narrowly missing her daughter, who was 13 at the time.

Donald Trump not a white supremascist, says acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney
Wallace asked if Drumpf has considered making a major speech “condemning anti-Muslim, white supremacist bigotry?” because of the criticism he has faced.
“The president is not a white supremacist. I’m not sure how many times we have to say that,” Mulvaney replied.
This doesn't answer the question, though; when is Trump going to speak out decidedly against racism, Islamophobia, bigotry and discrimination of minorities? When?
“And to simply ask the question every time something happens overseas or even domestically, to say, ‘oh my goodness, it must somehow be the president’s fault,’ speaks to a politicization of everything that I think is undermining sort of the institutions that we have in the country today,” Mulvaney added.
No-one said that (explicitly). It was just asked whether Trump is ever going to speak out against these evil-doers, when he is ever going to speak out against the aforementioned causes of such some tragedies. So far, he rather embraced those murderers rather than punishing them verbally; he rather fuels their hatred and grants them justification rather than joining the frontier to declare them as problems rather than the solution.
“When he calls all Muslims terrorists, Mexicans rapists, African Americans criminals, he begins to judge people … based on race, creed, color, nation of origin, sexual orientation,” the Democrat said.

"The way he presented was rational and someone who was not suffering any mental disability. That's how he appeared. He seemed to understand what was going on," he said.
New Zealand, a country of only five million people, has an estimated 1.5 million firearms. The minimum age for a gun license is 16, and 18 to own a semi-automatic weapon.

Alabama newspaper editor resigns over publisher's comment to the KKK to «ride again»
“He never left the building,” said Moore about Sutton, whose family has owned and operated the Democrat-Reporter based in Linden since 1917. “It seemed like (Dexter) would be real energetic and her (hiring) was the right thing.”
Several politicians, including U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell, D-Birmingham, called on Sutton to resign. Sutton was also stripped of his past journalism awards, and was censured by the Alabama Press Association.
“They had a decent newspaper about 16 years ago,” said Moore. “His wife was a very good investigative reporter and a very nice person. When she passed away, all the credibility of that newspaper left.”

On the Christchurch shooting and Donald Trump
"I spoke with Prime Minister Ardern of New Zealand to express the sorrow of our entire nation following the monstrous terror attacks at two mosques," Drumpf said in the Oval Office on Friday afternoon after first condemning the attack as "a horrible massacre in the Mosques" on Twitter.
Too late, and still not enough, dude.
But asked whether he saw a worrying rise in white supremacy movements around the world, Drumpf said he did not, blaming a small group of people "with very, very serious problems." He also told reporters that he had not seen the manifesto linked to by a social media account that's believed to belong to one of the attackers, which mentioned Drumpf by name and saw him as a symbol of renewed white identity.
Drumpf has many times been accused of using rhetoric that emboldens extremists and dehumanizes his targets. He has used vulgar language to criticize NFL stars who took a knee during the National Anthem. In announcing his campaign, he said Mexico was sending "rapists" across the border into the US. On Friday, at the same event in which he bemoaned the attack in New Zealand, he warned of "invasions" of undocumented migrants coming across the southern border.

Australian Senator blames shooting victims for their own death
“However, while this kind of violent vigilantism can never be justified, what it highlights is the growing fear within the community, both in Australia and New Zealand, of the increasing Muslim presence.
“The real cause of bloodshed on New Zealand streets today is the immigration program which allowed Muslim fanatics to migrate to New Zealand in the first place.”
“They are comments that are going to cause greater division, and they have already led to a number of sites – one by the white supremacist movement – praising the actions of the shooter,” Mr Rajan said.

On White Nationalism's deep American roots
The seed of Nazism’s ultimate objective—the preservation of a pure white race, uncontaminated by foreign blood—was in fact sown with striking success in the United States. What is judged extremist today was once the consensus of a powerful cadre of the American elite, well-connected men who eagerly seized on a false doctrine of “race suicide” during the immigration scare of the early 20th century. They included wealthy patricians, intellectuals, lawmakers, even several presidents.
“Even though the Germans had been directly influenced by Madison Grant and the American eugenics movement, when we fought Germany, because Germany was racist, racism became unacceptable in America. Our enemy was racist; therefore we adopted antiracism as our creed.” Ever since, a strange kind of historical amnesia has obscured the American lineage of this white-nationalist ideology.
Grant was not the first proponent of “race science.” In 1853, across the Atlantic, Joseph Arthur de Gobineau, a French count, first identified the “Aryan” race as “great, noble, and fruitful in the works of man on this earth.” Half a century later, as the eugenics movement gathered force in the U.S., “experts” began dividing white people into distinct races. In 1899, William Z. Ripley, an economist, concluded that Europeans consisted of “three races”: the brave, beautiful, blond “Teutons”; the stocky “Alpines”; and the swarthy “Mediterraneans.” Another leading academic contributor to race science in turn-of-the-century America was a statistician named Francis Walker, who argued in The Atlantic that the new immigrants lacked the pioneer spirit of their predecessors; they were made up of “beaten men from beaten races,” whose offspring were crowding out the fine “native” stock of white people.
The influx of foreigners diluted the nation with inferiors unfit for self-government, many politicians in both parties energetically concurred. The Supreme Court chimed in with decisions in a series of cases, beginning in 1901, that assigned the status of “nationals” rather than “citizens” to colonial newcomers.
In part, this was spin, an attempt to legitimize fascism. But Grant and his fellow pioneers in racist pseudoscience did help the Nazis justify to their own populations, and to other countries’ governments, the mission they were on—as one of Grant’s key accomplices was proud to acknowledge. According to Spiro, Harry Laughlin, the scientific expert on Representative Johnson’s committee, told Grant that the Nazis’ rhetoric sounds “exactly as though spoken by a perfectly good American eugenist,” and wrote that “Hitler should be made honorary member of the Eugenics Research Association.”
The authors of the Fourteenth Amendment, he believed, had failed to see a greater truth as they made good on the promise of the Declaration of Independence that all men are created equal: The white man is more equal than the others.

Fox News rebukes its host Jeanine Pirro for comment on Omar
"We strongly condemn Jeanine Pirro's comments about Rep. Ilhan Omar," Fox News said in a statement. "They do not reflect those of the network and we have addressed the matter with her directly."
Pirro suggested on her Saturday show that Omar's beliefs about Israel stem from her religion. Omar is Somali-American and a practicing Muslim who wears a religious head-covering called a hijab.
Funnily, there are Muslims in her district who state that she doesn't represent Islam, which sounds about right. I mean, no-one would ever say that David Koresh represented American christianity. It's simply not true, but what else was to be expected from Fox News' hosts? I mean, you can read it later on, I still have an article about Tucker Carlson remaining in my bookmark lsit.
"Special Report with Bret Baier," tweeted: "@JudgeJeanine can you stop spreading this false narrative that somehow Muslims hate America or women who wear a hijab aren't American enough? You have Muslims working at the same network you do, including myself."

African-American picked up trash on his property, threatened by police officer
"He's picking up trash," the person filming says repeatedly, as the man and the officer exchange words at a distance. "He lives here," the person filming says. The officer is then joined by other officers and the man and the officers appear to be yelling at each other. The video ends with all the officers walking away.
"The officer detained the man to investigate further and made a request over the radio for additional assistance to respond, indicating that the person was uncooperative and unwilling to put down a blunt object."
Testa said the investigation could take months, and the officer at the center of the incident has been placed on administrative leave.

On the (actual) crisis at the border
More than 76,000 migrants were apprehended crossing the southern border last month, the highest February in more than 10 years and the highest month of the Drumpf administration. The number of apprehensions tops any month during the 2014 border surge under President Barack Obama, which no one had a problem calling a crisis at the time.
There is no mechanism to return these migrants home, to hold them after they cross the border, or to remove them once they are in the interior. And word has gotten out. There’s a reason that the subset of migrants that we can’t stop from getting into the country is rapidly growing.
We should question why there is no such mechanism to return them. Because then, we would get to the actual crisis: The irresponsibility of the US ( country founded by immigrants) when it comes to safely returning those people. In the past, they used to simply tell them that they wouldn't get in, and to return from where they've come from. This indeed is irresponsible, regarding the state which the US have in the world, and in their local area. Now, this fatal flaw turns out to reach a stake. The problem is not the flow of migrants reaching the Southern border, but the US' unpreparedness towards those people. Egoism never works out in the long run, as we can see.
Drumpf’s rhetoric may be over the top and his focus on the wall too monomaniacal, but the impulse to get a handle on this is absolutely correct.
The problem is that he doesn't want to get a handle of it, all he doesi s cursing, insulting, lying. This is no method to solve the problem. He only makes matters worse.

Fired police officer sentenced to 25 years in jail for manslaughter
They found the 41-year-old Raja guilty Thursday of manslaughter and attempted murder for the 2015 death of Corey Jones. He faces a sentence of between 25 years and life. Aronberg declined to comment on the specifics of the case until the April 26 sentencing.
Raja was in plain clothes and driving an unmarked white van when he drove the wrong way up a darkened ramp to Jones' stalled SUV. Prosecutors said an audio recording showed Raja never identified himself and approached Jones aggressively, making him believe he was being robbed.
Apparently, the man was black, which infuriated the sentenced police officer even more.

Mapping affective polarisation in the US
To find out, The Atlantic asked PredictWise, a polling and analytics firm, to create a ranking of counties in the U.S. based on partisan prejudice (or what researchers call “affective polarization”). The result was surprising in several ways. First, while virtually all Americans have been exposed to hyper-partisan politicians, social-media echo chambers, and clickbait headlines, we found significant variations in Americans’ political ill will from place to place, regardless of party.
In general, the most politically intolerant Americans, according to the analysis, tend to be whiter, more highly educated, older, more urban, and more partisan themselves
He found, for example, that age, race, urbanicity, partisan loyalty, and education did coincide with more prejudice (but gender did not). In this way, he created a kind of profile of contemporary partisan prejudice.
If you happen to check out the map, remember that Florida, a federal state that is located in the Deep South, is ruled Republican. Just saying...

Detroit man files lawsuit for gardening while being African-American
Peeples alleges that the women — Deborah Nash, Martha Callahan and Jennifer Morris — had their own plans for the park and wanted to see him "incarcerated or seriously injured by law enforcement."
I guess those women thought that he should be picking cotton somewhere in dem ol' cotton fields back home. Gardening is a job made for Meheecans.
Two months later, as Peeples was in Hunt Park teaching a group of home-schooled students about gardening, one of the women called 911 and falsely reported that Peeples was a convicted pedophile and wasn't legally allowed near kids, the complaint said. Police arrested Peeples in the park.
Seriously, what is wrong with those women?

Former TV star-turned-racist bitch expressed her two cents again
The comedian sat down with conservative commentator Candace Owens in an interview that posted on YouTube Sunday to talk politics, Hollywood, race, religion and the #MeToo movement, taking specific aim at the women who accused Louis C.K. of sexual misconduct while in his hotel room.
Barr said her insight into women is different than most because she has two sons — 23 and 40 — and five grandsons. “I know a ho when I see one,” she told Owens. “I’m telling ya, they come for my boys ’cause my boys, you know, I’m their mom and they’re, you know, we have a little bit money. VA First Lady Pam Northam under fire for handing cotton to black students
"The Governor and Mrs. Northam have asked the residents of the Commonwealth to forgive them for their racially insensitive past actions," Leah Dozier Walker, who oversees the Office of Equity and Community Engagement at the state Department of Education, wrote Feb. 25 to lawmakers and to the office of Gov. Ralph Northam, a Democrat.
"Mrs. Northam then asked these three pages (the only African American pages in the program) if they could imagine what it must have been like to pick cotton all day," Walker wrote. "I can not for the life of me understand why the First Lady would single out the African American pages for this — or — why she would ask them such an insensitive question."
Does anyone else wonder that she indirectly told those black students that it was actually the Africans' fault to have been enslaved? I mean, the African-Americans can surely imagine best how it is to be oppressed by people who think they were superior to them. She would've better handed over a white student the cotton and ask him or her whether he or she could imagine how it was to pick cotton or tobacco the entire day, every day of the week. She is pretty racist, isn't she?

Racism became major topic during MIchael Cohen Testimony
“Just because someone has a person of color, a black person working for them does not mean they aren't racist,” Tlaid said. “And it is insensitive, and some would even say that the fact that someone would actually use a prop, a black woman, in this chamber, in this committee”—here she took a heavy sigh—”is alone racist in itself.”

Ehem.
Stand up for the Pledge of Fucking Allegiance, you Commie scum!
The sixth-grader from a Tampa suburb allegedly told his substitute teacher the flag is "racist" and the national anthem is offensive to black people, Bay News 9 reported, citing a statement the teacher gave the district.
Talking about the freedom of expression and indoctrination by Cultural Marxists, huh? To me, this looks like an archaic enactment from a time in which patriotism was part of the schedule at schools.
In response, the teacher said she asked the student why not go to another place to live if it was "so bad here." She said he answered, "They brought me here."
Also, once I wondered whether the Pledge Of Allegiance was still being recited in schools, before the beginning of the lesson. Now I know, and it's still an archaic procedure, like the morning prayer in private religious schools.

Jair Bolsonaro: Slayer of the indigenous people
“With Bolsonaro, the invaders are feeling more at ease,” Bitete Uru-Eu-Wau-Wau, who lives on an Indigenous reserve, told The Intercept by telephone.
Last month, the image of a bullet-riddled metal plaque reading “National Indigenous Foundation, Protected Territory” made the rounds on WhatsApp, Brazil’s most popular messaging app. The sign marks the entrance to one of several villages in the vast Uru-Eu-Wau-Wau Indigenous reserve, in a lawless region of the Amazonian state of Rondônia, near the Bolivian border.
Days after signing the decree, Bolsonaro tweeted a video clip of another one of his ministers who argued in a cable news interview that many of the existing Indigenous reserves were established using fraudulent documents, and called the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples “spurious” and “treasonous.”

Investigations continue, Kaepernick's participation in league uncertain
The league and Kaepernick’s lawyer sent out statements Friday saying that “the parties have decided to resolve the pending grievances” and that a confidentiality agreement would prevent either side from commenting further.
The protests slowed down this season, as the NFL made contributions to organizations chosen by players and promised more attention to social justice issues. But the controversy reignited every time there was a development in the case.
While he has been away from the playing field, Kaepernick has become an advocate for battling social and racial injustice. On Thursday, a person with knowledge of the conversations told the AP that Kaepernick turned down a chance to join the fledgling Alliance of American Football , seeking $20 million or more from the upstart league that pays its players $225,000 over three seasons.

The US territory, including its colonies
Were Japan’s targets considered “the United States”? Legally, they were indisputably US territory. But would the public see them that way? What if Roosevelt’s audience didn’t care that Japan had attacked the Philippines or Guam? Polls taken slightly before the attack show that few in the continental US supported a military defense of those remote territories.
But it is also missing Puerto Rico, which, although not a state, has been part of the country since 1899. When have you ever seen a map of the US that had Puerto Rico on it? Or American Samoa, Guam, the US Virgin Islands, the Northern Marianas or any of the other smaller islands that the US has annexed over the years?
The racism that had pervaded the country since slavery also engulfed the territories. Like African Americans, colonial subjects were denied the vote, deprived of the rights of full citizens, called racial epithets, subjected to dangerous medical experiments and used as sacrificial pawns in war. They, too, had to make their way in a country where some lives mattered and others did not.
