The Susquehannock have one of the most fascinating stories about their pre-Columbian status which states that, around the middle of the thirteenth century, a king came to them from the eastern shore and subsequently ruled over all of the region's natives (brand new page):

SC justice Neil Gorsuch backs Native legislation, contradicting other conservative jusices

On Tuesday, Gorsuch split from his conservative colleagues, siding with the court's more liberal members in a case involving the Yakama Tribe and its right under an 1855 treaty to travel the public roads without being taxed on the goods brought to the reservation.

Either this chapter was inadvertently clipped, or Natives really weren't allowed to travel via means of public transport, e.g. busses and trains. Is this true, or didn't I just understand it correctly?

For those familiar with Gorsuch's record, his vote was not a surprise. He is, after all, the only westerner on the Supreme Court; indeed, prior to his 2017 appointment to the court, he served for 11 years on the federal court of appeals based in Denver — a court that covers six states and encompasses 76 recognized Indian tribes.

"The Yakamas knew all this and could see the writing on the wall." They knew they would lose their lands, so they needed to "extract from the negotiat... show more

Rep. Steve King (R - IA) uncertain about whether a white society was superior to a nonwhite one

“I don’t have an answer for that. That’s so hypothetical,” Mr. King, Republican of Iowa, told her. “I’ll say this, America is not a white society — it has never been a completely white society. We came here and joined the Native Americans.”

I wouldn't call a genocidal commitment and the full displacement of Natives from their homeland joining.

Mr. King again faced scrutiny on Monday after a post on his Facebook page speculated who would win a second civil war between red states and blue states.

On Tuesday, pressed by a reporter from CNN, Mr. King told constituents that he “wasn’t aware” that the image had been published on his Facebook page the night before, and said he does not personally manage that page.

Native inmates won lawsuit to grow their hair long due to spiritual beliefs

The trio of long-time prisoners at the McConnell Unit sued the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in federal court, arguing that their Native American spiritual beliefs regard hair as an extension of the soul, something to be cut only when in mourning. The prison system’s rules requiring men to keep short hair or face disciplinary consequences, the inmates and their attorneys argued, were an unfair violation of religious freedom.

Even though female prisoners are allowed to have long hair, attorneys for the state claimed that letting men do the same would cost too much money to police, that prisoners would get too hot in uncooled facilities, that it would make identifying inmates harder and that it could increase the number of inmate suicides.

I don't get the last argument. Do they beleive that they could use their hair as a noose, to strangle themselves to death? Or how do they explain this argument?

“Although both male and female offenders ... show more

Liberals either handle the border situation, or fascists take over

Clinton’s assessment of the European political situation is accurate. According to recent poll numbers, 63 percent of French people believe too many immigrants are living in their country. One-third of the British people who voted in 2016 to leave the European Union cited immigration as their primary reason. In Germany, 38 percent rate immigration as the most important issue facing their country. Thanks in great part to their anti-immigration messages, populist parties now govern Italy, Poland, Hungary, and the Czech Republic.

Across the developed world, very high levels of immigration have coincided with widening class divisions, the discrediting of political and economic elites, and the rise of extremist politics. And immigration pressures will only intensify in the decades ahead, for reasons obscured by media coverage of immigrants as poor and desperate.

Since 1990, the number of human beings living in extreme poverty—defined as less than $2 a day... show more

Furious woman speaks out about #MAGA boy who behaved disrespectful in front of Native American war veteran

The site said the woman was not the mother of the boy featured most prominently in the footage, who has since identified himself as Nick Sandmann and released a lengthy statement denying that any intimidation or mocking took place.

“We will take appropriate action, up to and including expulsion,” a statement said. “This behaviour is opposed to the Church’s teachings on the dignity and respect of the human person.”

However, a separate and much longer video showed how the children were subjected to a barrage of abuse including homophobic slurs and racially charged language by the group of black men mentioned by the student’s mother. The men, who claimed to be “Hebrew Israelites” according to the New York Times, argued aggressively with the students.

Unlike in Faux News, the video is hereby embedded so tha... show more

Catholic student claims to have received death threats from black people

_Nick Sandmann, a junior at Covington Catholic High School, said he was "mortified that so many people have come to believe something that did not happen -- that students from my school were chanting or acting in a racist fashion toward African Americans or Native Americans. I did not do that, do not have hateful feelings in my heart and did not witness any of my classmates doing that."__

Does anyone believe him? Well, I don't. He will have to provide some evidence. Is there any police commissioner who has seen those death threats? Is there any physical proof of these death threats? So far, this sounds like a bitter lie. Also, if he has received death threats, how does this justify his behaviour during this march? I can't see any reason why this should be fine then.

However, Sandmann said, the students were confronted by four members of the Black Hebrew Israelite movement, who "called us 'racists,' 'bigots,' 'white crackers,' 'f----ts,' and 'incest kids.' They also taunted an Africa... show more
