Ruler of Grand Duchy for 36 years took part in D-day landings with British army

Grand Duke Jean of Luxembourg, who took part in the D-day landings with the British army before spending nearly 36 years as his country’s head of state, has died aged 98.

He had abdicated in 2000 to make way for his son, Henri, who said his father passed away surrounded by family.

Final appeal for Reuters journalists rejected by Myanmar's highest court

Wa Lone, 33, and Kyaw Soe Oo, 29, have spent more than 16 months in detention since they were arrested in December 2017 while working on an investigation into the killing of 10 Rohingya Muslim men and boys.

“The United Nations will continue to call for full respect of freedom of the press and human rights,” he said in a statement. “Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo should be allowed to return to their families and continue their work as journalists.”
Only calling for it wont' be enough and is not going to release them from their unjust imprisonment. What is required is an international communtiy that will intervene in this country to free those public servants, united. Otherwise, they are going to rot in this prison for seven years, unless an insurgent army for truthful reporters will get them out the unorthodox way.

Gen. Dagoy’s “peace rally” is fake; NPA cannot be defeated in Leyte because of deep roots

The Efren Martires Command (EMC) of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Eastern Visayas today said the NPA has struck deep roots in Leyte and is standing up to the all-out war of the US-Duterte regime, thus dismissing the “peace rally” held last April 13 in San Isidro, Leyte as a charade orchestrated by Army brigade commander Gen. Lope Dagoy. “The NPA has persevered since 1978 in Leyte because it serve the people and advances the armed struggle for national freedom and democracy. The so-called peace rallies staged by the Armed Forces of the Philippines such as in San Isidro are desperate ploys to parade thousands of fake “NPA surrenderees” to falsely claim victory over the NPA,” said EMC spokesperson Ka Karlos Manuel. “But the AFP itself admits it cannot defeat the NPA this 2019 and has moved the deadline to 2022.

Psywar campaign to deceive and divide the revolutionary movement through fake peace talks is stupid and futile

Based on their latest statements, it is now clear that Duterte and his running dog General Galvez are not at all interested in serious peace negotiations through panels duly authorized by the NDFP National Council and the GRP president as the principals at the national level.

They continue to drive nails into the coffin of the peace negotiations which Duterte has terminated and killed formally since November 23, 2017 with his Proclamation 360. The tyrant Duterte is most despicable for throwing away the draft agreements made by his own negotiating panel with the NDFP negotiating panel.

Duterte and Galvez are interested merely in a psywar campaign to stage fake localized peace talks and fake surrenders between military officers and their military assets (disguised as surrendering rebels) in a stupid and futile attempt to deceive and divide the broad masses of the people.

Such psywar campaign is a mere minor adjunct of the all-o... show more

Duterte is mortally afraid of the New People’s Army as he steps up the mass murder of unarmed people

If Duterte and his armed minions were to be believed, the New People’s Army no longer exists because it has been supposedly decimated several times over by fake surrenders and fake encounters.

The more Duterte presents himself as a victorious conqueror, the more he exposes his frustration and cowardice by speaking to the public only behind a thick bullet-proof glass. His false claims of victory are belied by the NPA’s intensifying offensives on a nationwide scale.

In fact, he has been most successful at ordering his death squads to kill unarmed social activists, including priests, journalists, teachers, health workers, lawyers, and human rights advocates. He has extended the methods of Oplan Tokhang to Oplan Kapayapaan by red-tagging, framing up, and murdering an increasing number of victims who are opposed to his regime.

Who caused the downfall of Libya?

Yet, even the harshest critics agree NATO’s involvement in Libya did not cause that country’s deterioration: it was already in a civil war, with the UN and Arab League warning the regime could commit mass atrocities amid Muammar Gaddafi’s vows to “cleanse Libya.”

The United Nations University (UNU) wrote in a 2011 analysis: “Whenever States decide to use force against another State, whether individually or as a group, the first question that arises is whether such an action is pursuant to the right of self-defense (Article 51 UN Charter) or is one authorized by the Security Council. In the case of Libya, Article 51 does not apply, as Libya had not attacked any NATO member State. It therefore follows that only an authorization by the Security Council could provide a sound legal basis for any military action against Libya and keep NATO action from being in violation of UN Article 2(4). The question is: Was NATO action in Libya authorized?”

Sec. Of State Mike Pompeo makes false claims about Assad's power in Syria

The false claim:

Pompeo, April 8: I might add, Bashar al-Assad controls a small fraction of Syria today. The work that the Drumpf administration has done to deny Assad the capacity to rebuild his nation — this is the guy who believes he won, but the truth is the Middle East is in a much more stable, much better place today than it was when President Obama was running the joint in Syria.

The correction:

“Pompeo’s comment is false,” Steven Heydemann, director of Middle East Studies at Smith College, told us in an email. “The Assad regime controls about 60% of Syrian territory, including the entire western ‘spine’ of the country that includes all its major cities and a large majority of its population.”
The civil war in Syria started in March 2011, and, at its weakest point in 2015, Assad’s government held less than a fifth of Syria. “However, the Asad government —

Revolutionary justice carried out as NPA hits AFP troops in two engagements in ComVal

Red fighters under the ComVal-Davao Gulf Sub-Regional Command battled AFP troops in two separate engagements in Mabini and Maco towns in Compostela Valley, which resulted in heavy enemy casualty and thus dispensed revolutionary justice against the fascists whose hands are bloodied with the recent murder of two civilians and other serious abuses against the masses in the province.

On April 3, at around 6:45am, Red fighters engaged troops of the 71st IB in Sitio Bagong Silang, Brgy. Teresa in Maco town, where 4 fascist soldiers were confirmed killed and several others, including the Alpha Coy commander 1Lt. Serwin E. Matas, were severely wounded. Earlier, on March 30, three soldiers of the 66th IB were likewise killed in battle at around 9:30am in Sitio Dasuran, Brgy. Golden Valley in Mabini town. Contrary to fake news by the AFP, there was no casualty on the side of the NPA.

NPA defies AFP’s intensified campaign in Daguma range

On the occasion of the 50th founding anniversary of the New People’s Army, the revolutionary forces in Daguma range are concretely carrying out an enduring yet triumphant resistance against the reactionary state’s unrelenting aggression.

The AFP’s intensified operations in the region that started in January is a continuance of its series of futile campaigns in the past. The peasant and Lumad masses in the area are keenly aware that the incessant attacks of the reactionary forces in their territory are meant to suppress their struggle for land and to protect the mining and logging encroachment.

On the latter part of January, successive actions against the enemy forces were carried out by the NPA-Sultan Kudarat at the onset of the AFP operations. The series of offensives set off with the harassment of a Marine detachment in Maat community in Sangay village, Kalamansig town on January 22. Two soldiers were wounded in the attack.

AFP and PNP lying; Red fighters only use command-detonated explosives—CPDF

The Cordillera Peoples Democratic Front (CPDF) accused the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) of lying when they alleged the New People’s Army (NPA) used an unmanned improvised explosive device (IED) in their April 2 clash that killed a policeman and wounded nine others at Cabunagan, Poblacion, Tadian, Mountain Province.

“Accustomed to releasing fake news, it is not farfetched for these spinmasters to concoct a preposterous story to downgrade their defeat. They simply cannot accept that even with their superior manpower and weaponry, they are still defeated by the NPA,” CPDF Spokes person Simon “Ka Filiw” Naogsan said.

Naogsan said the AFP and the PNP vainly conjured a scenario to accuse the NPA of violating the Ottawa Treaty on the employment of unmanned IED that explodes when subjected to pressure or extreme heat.

A Rejoinder to the Malicious and Slanderous Publicity of the AFP-PNP On the NPA’S Improvised Explosive Devices and on “Localized Peace Talks” to Malign the Revolutionary Movement in the Ilocos-Cordillera

Since the time the NPA have been using the so-called Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) to advance the National Democratic Revolution through People’s War against the Filipino people’s three basic problems of US imperialism, feudalism and bureaucrat capitalism, the fascist commanding officers of the reactionary AFP-PNP forces – who are the candid protectors of the big landlords and big comprador bourgeoisie and their US-imperialist master – blatantly shout that the revolutionary Army of the Filipino people are the violators of the international laws and rules of war. On the NATO's 70th anniversary

The U.S. Congress invited Jens Stoltenberg to demonstrate its unwavering support for NATO amid rising tensions with Russia over the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces treaty aimed at preventing a nuclear confrontation.

“We do not want a new arms race. We do not want a new Cold War. But we must not be naive. An agreement that is only respected by one side will not keep us safe,” said Jens Stoltenberg the NATO Secretary-General.

Drumpf’s individual relationship with NATO has been turbulent, partly because he wants closer relations with Russia, though his administration is pressuring fellow NATO member Turkey to drop an arms purchase from Moscow.

Palantir Technologies to build battlefield intelligence system for US army

Industry experts said it marked the first time that the government had tapped a Silicon Valley software company, as opposed to a traditional military contractor, to lead a defense program of record, which has a dedicated line of funding from Congress. The contract is potentially worth more than $800 million.

But critics within the Army and in Congress have for years complained that DCGS-A cost too much and didn’t deliver the intelligence and capabilities that soldiers needed. Some soldiers said the system was too hard to use and searched for alternatives.

The company faced initial skepticism from investors, who thought it couldn’t overcome entrenched bureaucratic interests and what they saw as political favoritism that led the Pentagon to spend billions every year with the same small group of Beltway contractors.

US not amused about Russia sending troops to Venezuela

If I'm not mistaken, Putin was a strong supporter of the Maduro regime, so it's no surprise Russia sent troops to join the Venezuelan military. Of course the US dislike this move because they think they were the only country to send out peace Corp.s to improve their global reputation, while Trump told the world that he was to send the troops back home. Now, if there is no-one else to support Guaidó, Russia is goign to enter the stage. It's simple as that, there was a vacuum to be filled.
It’s not entirely clear why they’ve arrived now, although some fear they’ve come to help Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro fend off a US-led attempt to depose him. While Russia has in the past sent a few advisers to Venezuela, 100 is more than normal, CBS News reported.

“Were Venezuela ever to fall from the Russian orbit, it would be very painful for the Kremlin,” Vladimir Rouvinski, an expert on Russia-Venezuela relations at Colombia’s University o

News on the Trump budget plan

1. Washington Examiner:

In total, the budget sees Drumpf adding approximately $9 trillion to the national debt through 2024 if he stays in office that long, only slightly less than the $9.5 trillion added to the debt during Obama's eight years in office.

The problem is not the amount of money he spills in debt (I also didn't hear anyone complaining about this, but rather about the cuts he is about to commit), but the inability to keep his promises, but rather contradicting them in his actions.

Much of the savings claimed by the administration in the budget released Monday would not be realized until after Drumpf left office, even assuming he wins re-election. Under current spending and taxing levels, the U.S. would run trillion-dollar annual deficits for most of the decade.

Trump presents budget plans - cuts for Medicare, upbeat for military

Since health care spending typically rises more swiftly than the consumer price index, tying it to the nation’s overall inflation rate would put a strong squeeze on the public insurance system that covers tens of thousands of poor, vulnerable people, some of them elderly.

The spending plan calls for a cut of nearly $1.5 trillion in Medicaid over 10 years and for $1.2 trillion to be added for a new “Market Based Health Care Grant” – that is, the block grants that would start in 2021. It also would eliminate funding for Medicaid expansion under the Affordable Care Act has gone to about three dozen states over the past five years.

Drumpf said he would not cut Medicare or Social Security, the retirement program for the elderly, but his budget last year also included a proposed cut of more than $550 billion to the program.
