MMMWWWWAAAAA....

Is Microsoft assimilating open-source, or is open-source assimilating Microsoft?

♲ Adam Gaskins (self@social.linuxlusers.com):
I've found Microsoft's acquisitions and activities in open-source projects rather disturbing. On one hand it makes me feel like they are somehow tainting a pure & precious resource, diluting the 'free' & 'open' part of Open-source and Free-software to the point of being meaningless. I have no doubt that this foray in to the community is driven by their corporate greed and other purely ill intent. On the other hand, they're certainly not the first corporation to get involved in the community with questionable motives (I'm looking at you Google, but you're not the only one either). They are, arguably, coming in to the community with the biggest potential to make big and fundamental changes to things - and while my gut says this is bad, my head says to think it through more before making a definitive judgement.

That said, is it possibly that in doing all of this that Microsoft will end up as th

The GNU nano. Version 4.0!

2019 March 24 - GNU nano 4.0 "Thy Rope of Sands"

  • An overlong line is no longer automatically hard-wrapped.
  • Smooth scrolling (one line at a time) has become the default.
  • A newline character is no longer automatically added at end of buffer.
  • The line below the title bar is by default part of the editing space.
  • Option --breaklonglines (-b) turns automatic hard-wrapping back on.
  • Option --jumpyscrolling (-j) gives the chunky, half-screen scrolling.
  • Option --finalnewline (-f) brings back the automatic newline at EOF.
  • Option --emptyline (-e) leaves the line below the title bar unused.
  • <Alt+Up> and <Alt+Down> now do a linewise scroll instead of a findnext.
  • Any number of justifications can be undone (like all other operations).
  • When marked text

Reddit's Linux post for the day: "Switching To Linux Has Made Gaming.. More Fun?"

OP: "Am I the only one who has found PC gaming is actually more fun on Linux?

How would having less games to choose from be more fun right? And why would games be any more or less fun to play on a different OS?

It kinda sounds illogical, but weirdly that's been my experience.

Last year while I was still on Windows, I was increasingly feeling bored of gaming and had a total lack of interest in the games available. I wasn't seeing much that looked particularly appealing to me."

A fully Libre phone that runs full distros! ...and it’s actually slick looking!

♲ Adam Gaskins (self@social.linuxlusers.com):
Not only is the Librem 5 a fairly bad ass and fully Libre device, but it runs full-on GNU/Linux OS (not a watered down distro), and my understanding is that it’s capable of running any GNU/Linux distro built for ARM!
Librem 5 – Purism
Here it is connected to a 4K display with BT headset, mouse and keyboard:

I hope they will offer a model with more than three gigs of ram and larger storage, for users who want to make better use of the full desktop potential! As it is though, it’s a very capable device with killer specs for a phone of it’s size and price. I’d love to see it be a huge success and inspire other companies to make hardware like this!

I'm looking for #recommendations on a new #text #editor- preferably with:I have #manuskript - nice, but no #wysiwyg #viewer (unless I missed it). I just tried #Atom - nice - has a wysiwyg viewer, and supports #mermaid , but heavily focused on #coding. Has #foldable text, but it doesn't work, presumably because I'm not coding. I've tried #libreoffice - too clunky.

what do you use?

NetworkManager-1.16: Add support for WireGuard VPN tunnels and Wi-Fi Direct connections (Wi-Fi P2P).

=============================================
NetworkManager-1.16
Overview of changes since NetworkManager-1.14
=============================================

This is a new stable release of NetworkManager. Notable changes include:

* Check connectivity per address family.
* Support "main.systemd-resolved" to let NetworkManager configure DNS settings
in systemd-resolved without making it the main DNS plugin of NetworkManager.
* Write "/var/run/NetworkManager/no-stub-resolv.conf" with original nameservers.
That is useful with caching DNS plugins like "systemd-resolved" or "dnsmasq" where
  "/var/run/NetworkManager/resolv.conf" refers to localhost.
* Change default "ipv4.dhcp-client-id" setting for the internal DHCP plugin from
"duid" to "mac". This is a change in behavior on upgrade when using the internal
