I'm not 100% sure how to moderate my own #Friendica servers when questionable content arises; I know how to delete posts, but it's hard to know why before they arise. My main plan is to not be an #Asshole.

[...] only commercial used communitys have to be gdpr conform?@🐰 Y. T. ☮ no, the EU makes no difference: all services that collect the personal information produced by end users must support GDPR. The value of information provided by the end user is considered constant, with the sole exception of state agencies (for which obviously the right to be forgotten makes no sense).
[...] On diaspora itself it’s supposed that all reshares or comments are deleted if you delete them. [...] If you delete an account all post’s are deleted. You would have to delete comments one by one.@mʕ•ﻌ•ʔm jeSuisatire bitPickup / [italic]~ irony Unfortunately this is not always the case and Diaspora does not give any guarantee in this regard, because the pods are not bound by a protocol that requires the cancellation of the contents.
The GDPR refers to personal information, collected by the server voluntarily or accidentally. What is voluntarily made public and is not personal information is protected by copyright laws, which is another matter.
If a server mirrors information without the user's consent or the user withdraws his or her consent to that information (be it a photo, a video, some text, etc.), he/she can have recourse to the right to be forgotten. If, for example, a muslim called Roberto publishes a photo while fishing bare-chested and someone shares it and a federated network mirrors the content, then Roberto can withdraw the consent to the processing of the data and have recourse to the right to be forgotten to impose the immediate cancellation of the personal data from all servers involved. Next time Roberto will be more careful, but in the meantime his privacy has been protected.
On the #friendica network (and on hubzilla I guess too) a reshare is a new post, you can actually add text if you want to. If you delete the original post the reshares will not be deleted. [...]The implementation of a software does not concern either the end user or the law. It is the admin's responsibility to allow the deletion of shared personal content once the consent has been withdrawn. The user requests the deletion of personal information from the server that contains his account, and for European law, the person administering it is totally responsible for deleting the data and delivering a private list of all the other entities that have processed that data, in a manner to be able to forward the request also to the latter. Not knowing the location of the information (and therefore not being able to delete it) can lead to serious fines, as well as to the termination of the service.
These are not "optional" things, they are legal obligations. Since cyberbullying and "revenge porn" has become a widespread phenomenon, authorities in many countries, such as Italy, make fines proportional to the number of information that could not be deleted.
Having a small drop down on each post listing the pods hosting it would of course violated the privacy of “real” decentralized single person pods. [...]@Rudolf Polzer If the dropdown is visible only to the creator of the post then no law is broken and everyone benefits (with the exception of those who are in bad faith ...).
Unfortunately those who manage a server are responsible for the traffic produced and therefore can never be totally anonymous.
According to European law, those who process the end user data must be well known to the end user: if you choose to share content that I produced then you must have my implicit or explicit consent and therefore you must be traceable.
Chi fosse interessata/o a partecipare mi scriva in privato.

to give the user a Delete my data from all servers button, establishing a common protocol that all federated servers/pods must respect to not be banned from the nearby pods. It is foolish to expect users to send a GDPR “right of oblivion” request to all existing podsOn the #friendica network (and on hubzilla I guess too) a reshare is a new post, you can actually add text if you want to. If you delete the original post the reshares will not be deleted.
On diaspora itself it's supposed that all reshares or comments are deleted if you delete them.
If you delete an account all post's are deleted.
You would have to delete comments one by one.
PM's are only deleted if both sides delete them.
(I might be wrong on one or another assumptions)

💡 Fediverse idea
Today it's still impossible to complitely get rid of #email . If you're like me, you probably communicate via email very rarely, modern communications happen in messengers - or in #Fediverse 😀 But we still need email for all sorts of singups, and for receiving information like bank letters, service notifications etc.
Fediverse has all sorts of bridges, to Gopher, IRC, XMPP, etc etc.
What if Fediverse ( #Friendica ? #Hubzilla ?) could allow receiving email to your firstname.lastname@example.org account? An extra inbox, sandboxed from posts and (direct) messages. I suggest only the receiving functionality (and UI), because of the difficulties of properly configuring email servers to not be banned by main email providers. Ensuring that email is received by users is probably easier than ensuring their replies are delivered to "traditional" providers. This will allow users who need an email only for occassionally receiving information to do it directly in Fediverse (adding one extra reason to use it).
Many people say it's difficult to set and maintain one's own email server. At the same time, "alternative" email services (believed to be #privacy friendly) invariably rely on trust: no matter that they open sourced frontend code and sometimes mobile clients (and even added encryption), we always have to trust the code they actually run on their servers (just like we trust the administrator of our Fediverse node). Fediverse has over 4k servers, Friendica and Hubzilla together - over 600. This functionality will help decentralizing email.
@Hypolite Petovan said
it would be challenging because email works on ports 25 or 465 or 587 (TLS) while Friendica is made to receive requests on ports 80 or 443 (SSL). So there would need to be some additional server configuration required for this to work. What are your thoughts on this, fedizens? What are the technical challenges? Can this be added as a plugin?
If you want your profile to be found in the user directory of your Friendica node or in the global Friendica directory, you should enable the following settings:
These settings are implemented as opt-in during registration. They are therefore deactivated by default for new users.
The advantage of being listed in the directory is that you will be better found when users search for potential new contacts.
This is how it looks in the global Friendica directory:
