Someone Pledged $1 Million to the GNOME Foundation Anonymously...GNOME Foundation is the non-profit organization behind the popular GNOME desktop environment and its associated suite of applications. The project was started in 1997 by two then-university students with the aim to produce a free desktop environment.
The GNOME desktop is being used as the default desktop for Ubuntu and Fedora.Almost all major Linux distributions like OpenSUSE Leap 15 also support GNOME as a desktop environment.

Moving from #ownCloud to #Nextcloud on #Fedora with #Docker

After many months waiting for the #Fedora updates of #Nextcloud, so I could migrate off the old 9.x version of #ownCloud which was gradually succumbing to bit-rot, I gave up and did it via #Docker using the official images.

The (no-longer-working) migration guide from the original Fedora maintainer of both packages was useful for a general overview of how to do it, and it was just a case of running versions of Nextcloud from 10 up to the latest (13) - all are still available to pull (although legacy versions are not linked on Docker hub, they're still available).

If you're on Fedora and still stuck on ownCloud, or have made the jump before the versions but are still on Fedora's unsupported version of Nextcloud, I'd recommend this approach.

In my case I've gone with the :fpm version of the image, tying it in to my existing Apache and MySQL installs on the host (rather than running those in containers too). If it's helpful to anyone, let me know and I can post some Apache config - there are a couple of gotchas from doing it this way.

There's some good background on the whole situation with the Fedora packages, and more on the reasons you need to do something (security issues, broken on F28), see this thread.
