On presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg's (D - IN) Fox News townhall

"And there are a lot of Americans who my party can't blame if they are ignoring our message, because they will never hear it if we don't go on and talk about it," he continued, adding that "we have to find people where they are, not change our values, but update our vocabulary so that we're truly connecting with Americans coast to coast."

Moments after the town hall ended, veteran Fox News journalist Brit Hume slammed Drumpf for "barely" facing interviews from reporters like Wallace, while lauding Buttigieg for doing so.
Could someone please turn off Sgt. Crybaby's mic, he's annoying us all. I actually am grateful for Fox News to invite Democrats and to them as well for not all turning down their invitations.

Still, we have to investigate more news, this one was too substantial, too general in its coverage. No comment on the content that was discussed on air.

PM Modi gives first press conference in five years

I believe we can say some things proudly. Our democracy is a vibrant one, full of goodness. We are the biggest democracy in the world but to showcase our capability is a responsibility we all share.
I wouldn't be so proud about this one, there are many critics on the Hindu nationalism you, Mr. Modi, propagate, many Muslims in India feel discriminated. Therefore, you'd better take it slow at this one, you could easily ignite shitstorms online.
I have had a good experience while campaigning. If any of you want to do a research on our campaign I will request party president to give you access. Not a single campaign event was cancelled. And even the weather was with us.

On the Australian election, and fmr. PM Bob Hawke

Rodrigo Praino, an expert in political behaviour at Flinders University, said the timing of this significant news will potentially hand Labor a free pass but leave the Coalition in an awkward position.

"I already feel a responsibility to millions of people to win. But sure, I want to do it for Bob as well tomorrow. I think a lot of Labor people will feel the same way," he said on the Nine Network's Today program.

"It's 25 years since Bob Hawke left the political scene. Grief around the loss of one of our great post-war PMs is hugely significant for those of us who have followed politics closely, but for the vast majority of Australian voters, it doesn't touch them."
It seems to me that he was something of a legend in Australian politics. Unfortunately, I didn't come to know him until now, so, if there is anyone who has got to tell more about him, feel free to share your knowledge with us in the comments (or in a private message if you saw this on Telegram).... show more

Congress Democrats to put more pressure on Senate majority leader McConnell

The move is intended to pressure Senate Republicans into taking up House bills and underscores a desire by Democratic leadership to spotlight all the legislation that has languished on the other side of the Capitol.

Separate votes would also help draw attention to little-noticed pieces of the initial bill, such as automatic voter registration or a crackdown on super PACs, which are priorities for the liberal grassroots and something some lawmakers say Democratic leaders have not done enough to promote.

In reality, the approach has little chance of changing McConnell’s mind. The Kentucky Republican has already rejected a wide range of ideas in H.R. 1 — like overhauling the Federal Election Commission and tightening restrictions for political ads. A spokesman for McConnell declined to comment on whether any of the Democrats’ bills could come to the floor, but there’s little reason to think he’ll reverse course.

On the Filipino midterms

What was shared here is my personal extract from the curated list compiled by Rappler reporters who, as it said the introductory chapter, have followed the campaign trail and the administration's development hitherto. To read the list yourself, follow this link here: Story compilation on Filipino elections

My extract from the articles:

In August, HNP forged alliances with 3 national political parties and 6 local parties from different parts of the country. The national parties they are allied with are Nacionalista Party (NP), Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), and National Unity Party (NUP).

In Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, in a large gathering of northern Luzon local government officials, Carpio mentioned 9 names as belonging to HNP's senatorial lineup with its alliance partners. Apart from the 8 in the first list, she mentioned Roque.

South Africa's ruling party ANC accomplished reelection narrowly

Support for the ANC, which gained 62 percent in the previous election in 2014, has steadily declined since it took a record 69 percent of the vote in 2004. Saturday's electoral showing comes amid growing voter frustration over rampant corruption and high rates of unemployment.
I really hope that after Jacob Zuma has been replaced last year, the direction is going to change, to stop this steady decline of the party in popularity and poll outcomes. I mean, this party used to be the party that ended the Apartheid regime, and now, it is but only a shadow of itself.
"We need to correct our mistakes," she said, adding that the election showed voters want an "ANC that is united, and in its unity remains true to the values and principles on which it was founded."

Nigerian opposition enforce legal changes in order to adjust electoral system

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, former vice president Atiku Abubakar, are challenging the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari of the ruling All Progressives' Congress (APC), which triumphed with more than four million votes.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) also pushed back the polls by a week from the initial date after encountering logistical problems made worse by arson attacks on at least two of its offices and bad weather for flights carrying electoral materials.

"Nigeria doesn't have the 'fruit of a poisonous tree' doctrine for evidence admissibility in court, so if Atiku can indeed prove that the results he has are genuine, he may have a case," argued Tunde Ajileye, a partner at SBM Intelligence, a Lagos-based political and economic risk advisory.

We recognise our responsibility as Leaders to make our Union stronger and our future brighter, while recognising the European perspective of other European States. That is why today we unanimously agree on 10 commitments that will help us live up to that responsibility:

We will continue to protect our way of life, democracy and the rule of law. The unalienable rights and the fundamental freedoms of all Europeans were hard fought and will never be taken for granted. We will uphold our shared values and principles enshrined in the Treaties.

We will safeguard the future for the next generations of Europeans. We will invest in young people and build a Union fit for the future, able to cope with the most pressing challenges of the 21st century.

Kellyanne "Alternative Facts" Conway upset about Hillary Clinton's comments

“She lost that election fairly and squarely, and when she says that election was stolen from her to hoots and hollers from the audience, she’s playing a dangerous game,” Conway said. “Here she is two and half years later, literally will not accept the election results because she lost.”
And although Ms. Clinton has lost, the Senate, which is mainly occupied by Republicans, can't get off her emails, although Trump commits much higher fleonies. So, why bother about a comment she has made, not intending to let anything follow up beside this? Doesn't she have anything else to do in her WH job, combatting actual facts?
“You can run the best campaign, you can even become the nominee, and you can have the election stolen from you,” Clinton said Saturday, noting that she worries that Russia will once again meddle in the upcoming 2020 presidential election.

Conway, who was Drumpf’s third and final campaign manager in 2016 and is now a top White House adviser, blasted “the inability of [Pelosi’s] party and her party’s failed nominee [Hillary Clinton] to accept the election results of 2016.”
She only made a semi-funny comment, ok? She didn't question the election's outcome, nor did she commence an investigation on the election's outcome. You can cool down at last, your administration didn't ever produce any seriousness since it took office in 2016. Therefore, you shouldn't bet an eye, Kellyanne "Alternative Facts" Conway.

Emotionalism has reached the left wing

After the speeches, Biden is in his element as Uncle Joe, expertly shooting selfie after selfie with voters’ smartphones, high-fiving small children and giving words of encouragement to well-wishers thrilled just to be standing next to a former vice president.

Biden also uses healthcare as a means to talk about “my buddy,” President Obama, whose popularity among Democrats has buoyed the former vice president. While he has always been proud to have served as Obama’s vice president, Biden says the passage of the Affordable Care Act was one of the administration’s high points.

“I have an ambitious plan to rebuild this country — from cleaner renewable energy, cleaner safer transportation, a whole range of things — that I’m going to be laying out,” Biden said. “But you’re going to be laying out on the floor if I keep going, if I laid it all out.”

Joe Biden (D - DE) is running forward in the polls

And a Morning Consult survey released Tuesday found Biden with 36 percent support, followed by Sanders at 22 percent. That’s a 6-point bounce for Biden from the same survey released earlier this month, while Sanders has fallen by 2 points. No other candidate reaches double-digit support in the Morning Consult poll, either.

A Suffolk University survey released Tuesday found the former Delaware senator in the lead in New Hampshire with 20 percent support, followed by Sanders and South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg at 12 percent. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) is in fourth place at 8 percent.

Biden’s strength in the polls is driven by his broad support from African Americans. Biden has 43 percent support from black voters, according to Morning Consult. Sanders is at 20 percent here, followed by Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) at 10 percent.

“Once everything is completed, early in January of 2020 we will have this meeting with the DPR, elections organizers (the General Elections Commission / KPU, Elections Supervisory Agency / Bawaslu, the DKPP), and every other stakeholder,” said the Minister in a written statement on Monday.
Great to hear that they are so quick to evaluate the outcome and the procedure of the election. Although this election was held late in the first quarter of the year, it's reasonable to hear that they are going to evaluate it all in the beginning of next year.
But seriously, why wait so long? Do they need so much time to count all the votes of their country? I know that this country is large and scattered over a vast space of sea on small islands, but still, if they need support, I am sure that the OECD would be delighted to help them out with personnel and such. Right-winged pundits attempt to spread false rumours about Pete Buttigieg (D - IN) in order to weaken his campaign

The man asked to remain anonymous out of a concern that the resulting publicity might imperil his employment, and because he said Wohl and Burkman have a reputation for vindictiveness.

After publication, Kelly told The Advocate that Wohl and Burkman flew him to Washington, D.C. on Sunday evening to participate in the scheme. But Kelly said he didn’t realize what they had planned, and that he didn’t consent to their publication of the Buttigieg allegations under his name.

When the source expressed reluctance, they assured him the scheme would make him wealthy, famous, and a star in Republican politics. Wohl cited the national recognition given to Christine Blasey Ford after she accused Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault durin

Is EKRE going to become a threat for Estonia's progressivism and pro-European stance?

EKRE’s popularity gained a significant boost from the formal recognition of same-sex unions in 2014 (which made Estonia the first central or eastern European country to adopt such legislation) and the outbreak of the migration crisis in Europe in 2015. “If you’re black, go back” and “I want Estonia to be a white country” were just some of the comments Martin Helme made in 2013.

Presidential hopeful Pete Buttigieg (D - IN) compares Bernie Sanders supporters to Trumpists

They're stuck," Buttigieg told high school Democrats in Nashua, N.H., on Friday. TX, TN, AZ turn towards further voting restrictions after surge in Democratic voters

Arizona Republicans are proposing new voting rules that could make it more complicated to cast an early ballot. In Tennessee, GOP lawmakers are considering a bill that would fine groups involved in voter registration drives that submit incomplete forms.
This is many Republicans' exact comprehension of how Democracy works: When the opposite side experiences a surge in votes, restrict their voters' rights to vote, so that they will improbably be capable of filling out a ballot correctly. Then, you are going to see your party winning in the next election. It might be autocratic and highly unconstitutional, but who cares when you're ruling?

General election underway in Indonesia

The presidential race pits incumbent Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and his running mate, Indonesian Ulama Council Chairman Ma'ruf Amin, against retired general and longtime rival Prabowo Subianto and multi-millionaire businessman Sandiaga Uno.

People in two districts of Jayapura, the capital of volatile Papua province in Indonesia's east, were unable to vote after ballots and ballot boxes were not delivered.

Prabowo, who has been accused of human rights abuses, ran against Widodo in 2014, while Uno is a businessman who spent a few months as deputy governor of Jakarta, after the mass rallies against Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (also known as Ahok) who was accused - and later convicted - of blasphemy.

Turkish president Erdoğan demands rerun of Istanbul mayoral election due to defeat

The move on Tuesday came more than two weeks after unofficial results showed the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) narrowly win in Istanbul.

If the appeal is approved, a fresh election will take place on the first Sunday 60 days after the initial vote, which will be on June 2. If rejected, the results will be finalised and the winner will receive his mandate to run the city.
But what if he is going to lose again? Wil lhe file another lawsuit to demand a rerun of his elections? Just asking because, it should be crysstal clear for everyone to see that this is not about any irregularities, but simply because he's a poor loser.
The political uncertainty has added to unease in financial markets. After the AK Party's YSK move, the beleaguered lira weakened to 5.8250 against the US dollar, its lowest level since March 22, bringing its losses this year to nine percent.

Presidential candidate Beto O'Rourke (D - TX) allegedly underpaid taxes of years 2013 and 2014

In those two years, O'Rourke and his wife, Amy, reported a total of $15,718 in medical expense deductions. However, at the time, people under 65 could only take the deduction if their medical expenses exceeded 10 percent of their adjusted gross income, and the O'Rourkes' expenses didn't exceed that threshold.

The Wall Street Journal, which first reported on the issue, noted that the error means that the O'Rourkes appeared to have underpaid their taxes by a total of more than $4,000 in those two years.
Seems like O'Rourke's tax return exposure has already hit back. I can already smell the right-wingers devouring this report, although their president still didn't show his tax returns, for whatever reason (perhaps tax evasion?).

William Weld (R - MS) to become first Republican challenger to Donald Trump

Weld has accused Drumpf of leaving the nation in “grave peril” and has said his “priorities are skewed toward promotion of himself rather than for the good of the country.” While Drumpf’s overall approval ratings have been poor for much of his presidency, he remains popular with Republican voters. The Republican National Committee in January issued a nonbinding resolution to declare the party’s undivided support for Drumpf.

Primary challengers to incumbent presidents have never been successful at stealing the nomination in the modern era, but embarrassing intraparty contests have proved to be the making of one-term leaders, seeding weaknesses that were later exploited by a general-election rival.

Hindus comprise about 80% of India’s 1.3 billion people, so the BJP is invoking its Hindu nationalist roots, with Modi at the forefront against the threat of Pakistan, India’s Muslim-majority archrival.

Voting will take place in seven phases over six weeks beginning Thursday. Around a million polling stations will be set up, and voters will choose 543 members of the Lower House of Parliament.
