Republicans still going crazy on AOC, calling her a domestic terrorist

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York tweeted about the incident, calling the rhetoric dangerous and adding such incidents lead to spikes in death threats made against her.

"The OCRF does not condone the unauthorized email sent out in our name," the organization wrote. "We apologize to Congresswoman Ocascio-Cortez for the use of unacceptable language in this email, and we do not approve of the message conveyed."
It took them pretty long to apologise for this disgraceful email. Did they first have to find the author of the email and then hold an impromptu summit to discuss whether they stand by their word or not?

Former House speaker Paul Ryan laments about AOC's ignorance on his advices

(I guess she knows who was talking to her, and what his legacy was, subsequent to his resignation)
"I talked to her, AOC — everybody calls her AOC ... She's the youngest person now there. I gave her just a few little tips on just being a good member of Congress, new. I don't think she really listened to a thing I said," Ryan said, to laughter from the audience.
To be honest, reading this I almost felt some sympathy for him. He sounds like the generian uncle who's talking to his young, eagerly spirited niece, giving her advices for her future life but she simply didn't care, running away from him, leaving him behind. It's comparably sad, although his work as a House speaker was paved with failure, trying to decrease the country's debt and such. Still, regarding what he must have said (as he is quoted), she seemed to have listened. She took it easy, and ran forward to tick the points on her agenda.

Incapable businessman mocks young bartender over GND proposal

(I know it's Faux News, but it's better than you might imagine, most parts of this report are quotes, so we can take it without a bad conscience after having read it)
"The Green New Deal, done by a young bartender, 29 years old," Drumpf told the crowd of House GOP lawmakers. "A young bartender, wonderful young woman.”
"Would totally do her if I had the chance, great catch for sure..."
"The Green New Deal. The first time I heard it, I said, 'That’s the craziest thing.' You have senators that are professionals, that you guys know, that have been there for a long time ... and they’re standing behind her shaking. They’re petrified of her," Drumpf said.

A rising star in the Democratic Party, Ocasio-Cortez recently rallied the progressive base against a plan by the Democratic Party's campaign arm to protect incumbents from would-be primary challengers such as herself.

AOC supports House candidates to raise donations

Ocasio-Cortez singled out the three lawmakers as supporters of the Green New Deal climate change plan and Medicare for All.
Ocasio-Cortez has emerged as a powerhouse in her first few months in Congress, showing an ability unique for a freshman to get headlines, influence policy and raise attention.

“Putting our values into action in the fight to get big money out of politics means not taking any corporate PAC money and relying on individuals to stand with us. Appreciate the support!” Hill tweeted in a post thanking Ocasio-Cortez for the support.

Amid her fights for environment, AOC forgets who got her in

“I thought AOC would be our savior, but that’s not the case,” complained Roxanne Delgado, a local activist who said she has tried for months to get in touch with the congresswoman for help saving an animal shelter and to clean up parks in the district.

“I want AOC or a representative from AOC to be there,” Anthony Vitaliano, a former cop and Community Board 11 member, said at a Feb. 28 board meeting.

Although Ocasio-Cortez tweeted about improving mail service in The Bronx this month, Vitaliano said he was still experiencing problems and waiting for her office to arrange a meeting with post-office management.
Damn. This way, she is not going to be re-elected, and her opponent who recently threw her hat in the ring, is more likely to make the race. For Pete's sake, this cannto be true.

On AOC and the Republicans

Three prior surveys — one in January from Morning Consult, one in February from Fox, and a third in mid-March from Gallup — all found that more Americans had negative views of AOC than had positive ones. This might surprise a lot of Democrats, who see all of her viral clips and impressive performances in congressional hearings and assume she’s a popular rising star.

A large number of Democrats — 44 percent — haven’t heard enough about her to have an opinion. A much smaller percentage of Republicans — 23 percent — can say the same. AOC is simply better known among Republicans than Democrats, and this is driving her unfavorables up.

Why Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D - NYC) advised Senate Dem.s to vote «present» on Green New Deal vote

When asked why so many Democrats in the upper chamber voted “present,” Ocasio-Cortez responded that she advised them to do so and slammed Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) for pushing a vote on the floor without a hearing in an attempt to put Democrats on the record about the proposal ahead of the 2020 elections.

The Senate on Tuesday voted down the plan, which would seek to combat climate change by investing in eco-friendly jobs and transforming the economy into one solely reliant on renewable sources of energy. The upper chamber voted 0-57 on taking up the resolution.

“Today’s #GreenNewDeal vote is a partisan stunt to side-step needed debate on climate action, and give Republicans cover to put oil lobby checks over our kids. I’ve come to expect nothing less from [McConnell]. I’ll be

Republican woman intends to run against AOC after failed deal with Amazon

“ [AOC]chose ideology over paychecks,” swannabe candidate and medical journalist Ruth Papazian, noting that Amazon vowed to create 25,000 jobs before pulling out of its deal to open a campus in Queens. “People need jobs. We don’t have economic diversity in the outer boroughs.”
Look at her picture in the article and then imagine her to tell you that you chose ideology over paychecks. Could you take her serious?
Anyway, but seriously: Amazon is known to employ people below the average payment of at least 12 Dollars or so. The warehouse conditions for employees are knowingly horrible, you cannot tell people that this was the most reasonable choice, to let Amazon create another headquarter in your borough because jobs were desperately needed. There have to be better choices, and AOC has to find them.
A daughter of Egyptian immigrants, Papazian said she would run on a platform of creating jobs, not chasing them away.

“But his WhatsApp,” the New York congresswoman tweeted, echoing the popular “But her emails” refrain that Drumpf allies used to argue Clinton’s use of a private server while secretary of state was much worse than any of Drumpf's controversies.

The chairman of the House Oversight Committee said Thursday a lawyer for Kushner told lawmakers last year that the White House adviser uses a private email account and encrypted messaging service WhatsApp for official government business, sometimes communicating with foreign contacts via those methods.

But still, this encryption is not worth anything when you really need safe transportation of information; there are devices created for such some purposes, you don't use an everyday messaging service when you're an adviser to the POTUS.

US Democrats fail to cope with the Ilhan Omar case

McCain, a co-host of "The View," ripped Omar for sending out the message, calling it “trash” and “beneath a sitting member of Congress.”

“Rashida, Ilhan, and Alexandria have at times dared to question our foreign policy, and the influence of money in our political system. And now, lobbying groups across the board are working to punish them for it,” Ocasio-Cortez’s team wrote in a fundraising email that also referenced freshman Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), who, along with Omar, is one of the first Muslim women to serve in Congress.

“On one end, we know that there are members who are going to be free. They're going to candid. What AOC (D - NYC) could learn from FDR

He also added that the New Deal did not literally end the Great Depression, which is important to remember when touting its merits. The New Deal helped millions of people survive a terrible economic ordeal, and that is to Roosevelt's credit — but it did not put an end to the ordeal itself.

While Ocasio-Cortez has been criticized for posting (and then taking down) a document which defined the Green New Deal as asserting a fundamental right to economic security and a sustainable planet, these notions are no more ideologically radical than the concept that we should have the right to free speech and personal property.

AOC compared to the politicians who ended the iron curtain

She is the gift that will keep on giving in a thousand soundbites. She is in their faces with the stridency of a world they loathe, almost martial in the way she articulates the multi-cultural energy of the new generation of progressives.

She for sure has got her platform for free promotion, there will always be scribes to shovel some more coal for her train.

That kind of deliberate misallocation of meaning invoked to scaremonger is part of the putrefaction of language used by demagogues through the ages. Fear of that didn’t deter Bernie Sanders, the first presidential hopeful in recent history with the balls to invoke socialism’s true principles and urgent application.

Then, almost out of nowhere, came the true slayer of inequality and plutocracy, AOC. First, to get elected, she managed the defenestration of a primary opponent backed by a complacent big city party machine. The next they knew she was sashaying along the corridors of Congress flanked by a posse... show more

AOC fires back on Ivanka Trump's conservative stance on work

"As a person who actually worked for tips & hourly wages in my life, instead of having to learn about it 2nd-hand, I can tell you that most people want to be paid enough to live," Ocasio-Cortez posted on Twitter. "A living wage isn't a gift, it's a right. Workers are often paid far less than the value they create."

Raising the minimum wage has been hotly debated around the country for years. Minimum wage ballot initiatives have won handily in red and purple states, such as South Dakota, Nebraska and Arizona, in the past two election cycles. Initiatives in Florida, Nevada and North Dakota to increase the state minimum wage are already in the works for the presidential ballot in 2020.

As New York Mayor Bill de Blasio explained, the Amazon deal would have produced “$27 billion in new tax revenue to fuel priorities from transit to affordable housing — a nine-fold return on the taxes the city and state were prepared to forgo to win the headquarters.”

The Green New Deal's relation to Alexander Hamilton

Hamilton, in short, successfully used the power of the federal government to boost manufacturing, to pick winners and losers, and to shape the fate of the U.S. economy.

Above all, the Green New Deal is a leftist resurrection of federal industrial policy. It is not an attempt to control the private sector, according to its authors; it is a bid to collaborate with it. And it draws on a set of ideas with a rich American history, extending long before the great World War II mobilization to which the Green New Deal is regularly compared.

_This new school is central to the Green New Deal. Omitting it is like ignoring Milton Friedman when discussing President Ronald Reagan’s policies. And discarding it is throwing out what makes the Green New Deal so interesting. _

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell blocks H Res. 109/"Green NewDeal"

McConnell fashions himself a brilliant political strategist when in fact — in Bob Dylan’s words — he is just the sluggish senator “blocking up the hall.”

There's a reason why they call him Bitch McCornhole. And it's of course a good reason, as you can imagine. I guess he lacks allies on both sides of the aisle.

Right now, the Green New Deal is an “ideal” — not a specific piece of legislation for anyone to pass serious judgement.

But if McConnell were truly interested in his state’s long-term future — not just his re-election bid in 2020 — he’d convey to his constituents that coal is getting its ass kicked by alternative energies and that coal seams are getting harder to mine. Embracing a cleaner economy is therefore an investment in the future — and the future generations of coal miners and their kids.

Two comments on the Green New Deal

1. New York Times: The Green New Deal Is What Realistic Environmental Policy Look Like

It is a technological exoskeleton for the species. Everything most of us do, we do through it: calling our parents, getting to work, moving for a job, taking the family on vacation, finding food for the evening or staying warm in a polar vortex.

Since environmental policy can happen only through economic policy, there is no avoiding decisions about what sorts of work there will be, and in which industries. It’s unsettling, but maybe a little less so when you consider that we’ve been doing it all along, usually without owning up to it.

To the left of the Green New Deal, there will be louder calls to nationalize fossil fuels in order to leave them in the ground. (A carbon tax would be compatible with any of these visions, depending on who paid it and how the revenues were spent.)

Pelosi as the leader of the Democrats' downfall

Pelosi knows that AOC is a rising national power -- particularly among the most activist and liberal left. Given Ocasio-Cortez's profile -- and her influence among young, liberal members -- Pelosi knows she can't just ignore what the New York Democrat says and does. But she isn't going to kowtow to AOC either.

Very junior members don't have any expectation that the leadership will take up their pet issue or cause or legislation. That Ocasio-Cortez has millions of Twitter followers matters something close to not at all in Pelosi's decision-making on how to proceed on climate change legislation.

Once upon a time, #Trump proposed a higher wealth tax

Trump's words verbatim: "By my calculations, 1 percent of Americans, who control 90 percent of the wealth in this country, would be affected by my plan. The other 99 percent of the people would get deep reductions in their federal income taxes.”

Two, he wanted a fairly hefty rate — 14.5 percent — that would have required a lot of rapid-fire liquidation of business assets. Warren’s rate structure is much lower than that.

The plan didn’t really make a ton of sense, but it does underscore one reason that very wealthy people express a lot of anxiety about the national debt.

I'm sure this was just a youthful folly, and nothing else, noting more serious. I'm pretty sure about this. At least he sounded more eloquent in the past, although this is nothing to challenge compared to his today's tweets.

For now, Cummings is repeating two guiding words to keep the newcomers’ enthusiasm productive: “efficiency” and “effectiveness.”
