Instead of researching how #YouTube made people believe in a #flatearth, the researchers should have focused on what YouTube did to promote #antivaxx #antisemitism and #racism. I bet they would find the same. That YouTube is a dangerous catalyst.

And I’d happily add to that “inadvertently”. Algorithms optimised for “time spent on site” have the (not really) surprising effect of promoting content that tickles animalistic behaviour, not common sense. Philosophers would agree, I guess.
