The Fediverse - A decision-making aid

Because Hubzilla can as well communicate with Mastodon and Diaspora* additionally to those you mentioned already, so that number is 4.6mio short and would reach the same as Friendica does...

you're not complerely right. In your protocol list you forgot zot which is a protocol that powers hubzilla zand zap. Additionally hubzilla can talk all protocols zap, activitypub, diaspora which means it can communicate with everything outhere.
Zot protocol also supports features no other federated protocol does. It solves issues of account migration and thanks to nomadicID it does not even tie the account to specific server giving you freedom to migrate but also have your profile hosted on multiple servers at the same time. Not to mention finegrain privacy settings one can have.
Its very sad that the most briliant social network project and protocol gets so little recognition.

i am really curious how mastodon got this widely used, not that i am unhappy with it. It just is the first federated network that really went big.

@Lukas Laufenberg It's simple to use, similar to tweeter and in the beginning wasnt that widely used, until tweeter pissed of a lot of people changing their TOS and since mastodon was quite easy to addapt (same set of features) it worked. Though if you look at global scale it didnt take over the world.

@Dirk Deimeke What I still find decisive is that you are not limited by Hubbzila and Friendica in the contribution length.
Sometimes you want to write a few letters longer than 500 characters!

@𝕽𝖎𝖈𝖍𝖆𝖗𝖉 And you dont need to mention everyone in the thread if you want to be sure they will see the post.

Friendica has become more of a activitypub. I need to check it more. I do like hubzilla a lot lately. Specially with all the progress it's got in last year. But with such low interest, I wonder if it will survive in long run. Afterall, friendica is pretty much a mother project of hubzilla.

@muppeth @Dirk Deimeke I can't say much about Hubzila, it likes that Mike is a genius programmer whose goals change a little too often. but I know the Friendica developers and helpers and I think we have a lot of staying power.
We're sitting on different trains, but their tracks lead in the same direction. Whether the tracks will go together will be seen, I think perseverance will be rewarded.

Interesting numbers which show the strength of Friendica. I also like Friendica because there is no character limit and it auto-complete threads better then everything else.

But to be fair I also have to say that even that it is possible to follow people across all this networks with Friendica, in practice it is often not that easy. I would call my self a person with quite some technical knowledge but it is not always intuitive to follow a Mastodon, Diaspora, Hubzilla, Pleroma,... account and I also know from other people who come to my profile page from one of the other networks and then fail to find out how to follow me. I think that's an area where Friendica could improve a lot to make this more intuitive.
